The only reason to support the popular vote over the electoral college is because you're a collectivist, which means a Democrat. Which you clearly were in 2000. The United States was never meant to be tyranny of the majority, States were meant to provide most of government. A conservative would grasp that means that national democracy is irrelevant. Yet you think all power is with the Federal government and that means that the Electoral college tramples your right to trample the rights of the minority. Your attitude is pure Democrat.

Second, everything you ever argue is for total government control of the economy, socialism. Again, Democrat.

And finally, you have no idea what Republicans think at all. Yet you keep lying you were one for most of your life. Well, then why do you have no idea at all in any way what Republicans think? But a few observations.
All federal elections have to always be collectivist.
The details as to how you do it, electoral vs popular vote, is not that different.
I do personally like the idea of reducing the impact/power of large population centers, but I would not call that "states rights".
States can't have rights.
Only individuals can have rights.
States have jurisdiction, and by being closer to the people, can better represent the inherent rights of individuals.

I've watched National Defense Conservatives rationalize it when Trump pulled the rug out form under our allies, the Kurds and undermine alliances.

If there was an underlying philosophical basis to conservatism, it had been dying for a long time before a stake was driven through its heart in 2016. I just saw where it was all going long before you got there.

I used to be a republican until I was about 13 or so and realized that my heroes like Eisenhower and Goldwater were fairly ignorant when it came to things like economics or justice, and were just a warrior mentality.
Vietnam prevented me from ever having any association with the military, as it was so obvious to me that Ho Chi MInh was a national hero for liberating Vietnam from the French, and our military was outright on the side of evil.
