“I pledge to be of service to Barack Obama”,

I pledge to vomit at the phony nature of this video.

Why couldn't these liberal actors and "stars" get behind Bush and pledge their support for him? Oh... I remember... They all had childish bumper stickers saying "Not My President"

People should look to do good no matter who is president. They sneak a lot of things in there like "health care" for seniors(really just socialism), stem cell research(as if that's a necessary step we need to take), and pledging to one man.

I think we should help the President make the right decisions no matter who is in office. Like it or not Barack Obama IS my president. I did not vote for him but I will support his office since he can make a huge difference by enforcing the will of the people. We need to make our voices heard in petitions and letters. That is how we can support him.

I don't agree with his agenda. but really his agenda is the agenda of the people who elected him. I afraid of that because I think it's one step closer to communism.

I don't like this sly propaganda being cleverly introduced to our kids in school. It is manipulative because of the star power to one point of view.

All kids want to be cool.

If they disagree with what the stars say they get labeled as uncool.

It's pretty manipulative.

My favorite bit of the video was the pledge to view himself as an "American" and not an "African American"

Meh, Bush had a few ad spots, he just didn't have the popularity with the media zombies that Obama has. If this aired on TV I would be interested to know the time slot and programs it was running on though, because if they target kids then it's beyond advertising and all the indoctrination rumors would seem more true. The problem though, one that seems truly ironic, is that the people "pledge" to help those "less fortunate" yet they are spending money on ads instead of actually helping much.

So that we are on the planet forever

I'm glad that they at least included the reason that these actors are pledging.

Whether you believe in God or not. It is impossible for us to be on this planet forever.

You're cute. Just not too bright. Forever is a long time and in a few billion years our Sun will go super nova and: no more us.

Hopefully we will have branched out and explored more so we have a new planet to infest before that happens.

Why can't people be satisfied with helping anonymously?

because superstars are generally infatuated with themselves. They need to be praised all the time to keep their self esteem off the charts. Trust me, very few stars give without something in it for them.

"We"-- meaning humans or a lifeform that succeeds us ? I wanna keep track of who are saving the earth for.

ROFLMNAO...

Well that is PRECIOUS!

The forces of secular-humanism PLEDGING to be a better person...

And I for one think that is just Super...

Of course, it's meaningless drivel... as the pledge of a secular-humanist is without value.

Against what, specifically, does their pledge rest? In THEIR MIND... what exactly is the downside, when that finger comes rolling out there in traffic? What's the penalty, who hold's them accountble?

The answer to all of which is NOTHING and NO ONE!

Every single one of them will still advocate for a RIGHT to murder their pre-born child, when such is seen as an inconvenience to them... They will EACH demand the RIGHT for those in the ethereal state of NEED to take from those who they feel has the means to solve that need and RARELY will any of them be found pointing towards THEMSELVES, reaching into their OWN pockets to get that done.

Volunteering to help another is a laudible act of kindness and charity... and we should each strive to do so and every American is prone to such; but flaccid little ads of populist celebrities who have enjoyed unspeakable fortunes and been found parting with piss little of it to HELP ANYONE...while they swallow their toothbrush and fall to the feet of empty humanist platitudes; seems a tad on the vacuous side; when the political ideas they advance, can only lead to more misery and fewer opportunities and that never hurts MORE than it does when you're on the bottom end of the opportunity scale; which is the side of the scale they're calling to serve.

Want to help the poor? GREAT! Help them by teaching them viable, sustaining principles which will allow them to rise to whatever it is their ambition and means provide... and reject to the extent of your means, the tired cliches and empty platitudes of the secular-humanism that has helped them to rationalize, where such is the case, their own personal failures.

What happened to your "Freedom of Speech" meme??? It all goes out the window when you disagree with the message. Demi Moore made the film and it went viral on myspace. It's her money and she can do what she wants with it, as the rest of the people who volunteered in the video can decide how to utilize their time.

I wish they put their annual salaries under their pictures like they did with the Wall Street guys.

That would be income. And since they are all in the entertainment biz, it's an optional thing to buy their product. They are not CEOs of publicly held companies.

You're a teacher?!?!

Oh ya mean like those performance bonuses, which such individuals routinely receive for having met bench marks established by the board of directors; who serve at the pleasure of that board? Who serve the stock-holders?

The last time I checked, I didn't see any moral or legal mandate to do business with a publically TRADED COMPANY... I don't see anyone being forced to buy products from those people... how's that ANY different from a decision to see a movie or watch a sitcom?

That a company is owned by the public... what the hell does that have to do with ANYTHING, Dumbass?

I would like to know how much they make How much their own "corporations" pay in taxes and what percentage of their own PERSONAL income they give the charity.

I'd also like to see how many lived up to their fucking pledges in the past seven months.

C'mon guys - if we are supposed to hate the rich, shouldn't we be equal opportunity bi partisan haters?

Some of the comments on YouTube are pretty funny:

I pledge to never pay to see any of these douche bags "entertain" again. You idiots aren't payed to act like you know how the country feels your paid to memorize lines and repeat them in front of a camera.

I pledge to think for myself.

I wonder what these pleebs will think of this so-called historic moment of change in 10 or 20 years.

WTF, celebs, he's the President, not a monarch. Cripes!

I pledge to be a free man! To live life as I choose. I pledge allegiance to the constitution, not to any person.

The contempt I feel is because they are pledging allegiance to a person. A person who happens to be our President. What will you do if he makes decisions that you don't agree with? Blindly follow because you made a pledge? Fools.

The odd thing is,
I help the poor by giving to charity,
I help disabled veterans by giving to charity,
I support families in medical need by giving to charity,
I help out in all kinds of ways, and it doesn't matter who the president is, or who the president was. I'd probably help out a lot more if I didn't pay so much in taxes.
The federal government just recently raised the tobacco tax, the state I live in just recently raised the taxes on tobacco, alcohol, income and sales. The county I live in just recently raised sales and property tax. Guess who is going to get less charity from me? I'll give you hint, it's the organizations that currently benefit from the initial charitable giving I listed. The government is stealing from them by raising my taxes.

Amazing.

Pledging to help people is now a bad thing.

Imagine if JFK were alive today and made that speech of his.

Amazing that some idiots need a president (that they happen to like, as opposed to one they don't) and a bunch of actors to tell them to be charitable before they will be charitable.

Wow ... so now you are for the rich spending their own money how they want. I simply pointed out the hypocrisy of them spending the money on something like this instead of donating it to actually help. Now you beg the question, are you okay with her also getting a tax deduction for this? She is one of those "top 1%" people you know. If they took out the "support Obama" shit then you would have a point, but this is clearly for that purpose. ;)

It's a film she made herself, there is no evidence of her being able to take a tax deduction by making it, nor her associates who contributed. She's not advertising herself. You don't operate in reality. How do you know it cost her anything to make it?:cuckoo:
