No, they weren't. Republicans were EXACTLY where they are now, a century ago. They spend like drunken sailors thinking the crash is never going to come. They cut taxes while running massive deficits, and refuse to invest in the infrastructure, education, and programs for the people, that made you your nation rich and people prosperous, in the first place.

Like the farmer who killed the goose who laid the golden eggs, Republicans are busy destroying the working and the middle class who made them rich in the first place, in favour of wealthy oligarchs, who import illegal labour and then blame the Democrats for illegal immigation.

Democrats prosecute Koch Food Industries and Tyson Foods for hiring illegals. Republicans end all prosecution of employers every time they're elected. Look at what happens under Democratic administrations: Illegal immigration declines.

Look at how illegal immigration rose under Reagan, dropped under Clinton, and then went up again as soon as W stopped prosecutions. Dropped steadily under Obama, rose again under Trump.

One of my friends from New York told me that every American he knew who went to school in Toronto kept their Canadian OHIP card, and snuck across the border for free medical care, until OHIP changed their cards to a photo ID card with an expiry date.

Sarah Palin famously bragged that her family used to sneak across the border to Canada for "free medical care".

Anyone who has bought a prescription from a Canadian pharmacy has profited from our health care system.

Prescription costs the USA is subsidizing for Canada hence the lower cost in Canada, you left that part out I think we all know why.

I don't think us Americans should get the short end of the stick, and have to subsidize every other country's Bulk Discount on the drugs they purchase by us Americans paying a much higher price for our medications.....mainly because our govt made it illegal for us to be able to negotiate bulk discounts with PHARMA.

There are two choices.

1. The USA can flex it's economic might to assist the rest of the world with the development an access to drugs they otherwise could not afford. An apex country like the USA should be stepping up and doing big things like this. I do think we suck at communicating the gift of lower drug prices paid for by Americans, not sure we are getting credit for this like we should be.

2. Or we can be a scrooge, charge the rest of the world higher drug prices to lower the price for these drugs in the USA.
