How do we reconcile these two statements?

1. We have a shortage of immigrant farm workers.
2. We eat too much.

Have you ever heard anyone say, "I eat too much in the way of fruits and vegetables?". Yeah, me neither. :)
Processed food (on the whole) isn't grown on farms. Therefore, the need for migrants to fill the jobs to pick the leafy greens and fruit.
Also need migrant staff for the meat, pork, and chicken processing plants...which do contribute to processed food.
So...migrants needed all the way around to do the jobs most Americans would never lower themselves to do. And we haven't even
gotten into the hospitality industry.

I disagree with'' jobs Americans'' won't do.

Pay the American worker decent pay they will do it. Technology advances could make human Agriculture workers a thing of the past soon.
And therein lies the rub. :) It won't happen. Hence the need to hire immigrants, who will do the jobs for the money that corporations are willing to pay.

I’m on your side with this. The problem is that our Government makes it possible to survive without a job via Socisl Security, Welfare, SNAP, etc…

When the option becomes “work or starve” the average American makes out because the bum either works or dies.

When was the last time someone told you they are eating too many fresh fruits and vegetables?

Well, let's rephrase this. We need LEGAL immigrants to help pick for the farmers. We don't need ILLEGAL aliens to do anything in the U.S. They suck up our resources supposed to be for legal citizens and legal immigrants. They commit crimes that should not have been committed here in the U.S.

Which takes years, even decades to happen, if at all. Meanwhile, the US economy goes in the toilet. Millions of people starve to death while waiting for those "legal immigrants". :auiqs.jpg:

The vast majority of migrants are here to work. To make money. And they pay taxes. Not sponge off the government teet.

I'd be a tad more responsive if i wasn't stuffin' my face while reading your thread Woodz.........~S~

The legal immigrants are. The illegal immigrants sponge off the legal citizens and legal immigrants taking jobs and money for healthcare. They also commit horrible crimes that should never happen. No, people aren't starving to death and won't because there are plenty of legal immigrants that come over to work during picking seasons.
