For many years, American companies (while Chinese goods were pouring into the US to feed the insatiable American consumer maw) could only sell in China if they went into a "joint venture" with a (well-connected) Chinese company, which promptly stole all the trade secrets, then would pull some strings, and presto, out the American company was.

even if trade with china was free trade, and it isn't, the effects of wage compression are not fair to the bulk of workers since we do not have comparative advantage over china in anything.

Free trade with Canada works, China is another matter and it is time to do something about it
