I am just a shell of myself from back injury

I hope you get better ,my hubby had a spinal fusion 21 years ago, he got better with time, although the worse part was the drugs and pain plus withdrawals for first almost 10 years or so.
He hasn't had any meds for over 10 years many years now, said NEVER again, just keep busy and don't give up. Do you play any musical instruments?
He found out there is never enough of those demon pain pills. He plays his music and works on fences, wells, tractor, helps me in house at times. keeps our old vehicles going.
It will get better.

How long did it take to recovery. ??

I was out of the gym for a year, and a month due to a back injury. Finally I realized that after all this time, as far as healing goes; this is as good as it's gonna get. And headed back to the gym. Gotta make due man. The worst thing you can do, is NOTHING...

How long did it take to recovery. ??

He still has 10inxh rods on both sides of his back, plus 6 nuts, bolts and screw , 3 cage's inside his spine and at times has his bad pain days. He just keeps moving and working, said if he stops will be too hard to get going again.
He has been living a normal life now for past 10 years but the reason it took so long was the addiction to the pain pills, plus he didn't have a choice to stop going nobody else was here to do all the work. And I couldn't do it all. He did have to give up his horse he loved dearly.
I think without the meds he may have gotten better a lot sooner. I like to watch these guys when I injure my neck, back shoulder working here on trails.

My entire life revolved around my sports and activities ( tennis , grappling , martial arts ). It was the only thing bringing me happiness

Now it’s been gone ( 2 years ) and I feel so lifeless , sad and hopeless.

I feel like a ghost without a grave
A glass back, a bad back that's ok most of the time but you have to be mindful when doing things, or you can't get about for a day or two.

I have a glass back, and as you know, once you're having a bad back day, you're immobilised. So I did my back in late 2003, off for 6 months, so I quit work. Then I paid out of my pocket a City & Guilds 2 year course in bricklaying. I wanted to retrain and get outside. So I've been doing that 20 years and I keep a weight lifting belt in the van incase of heavy lifting. If I stretch up, I'm stuck in bed the next day.

And now I do everything construction wise. If you have a -neg mind, you can't lead a +pos life. I loved my previous job, but sometimes you have to or forced into moving on.

Move on mate.

What kind of injury ? Any surgeries ??
What caused it
Blew out a disc in my lower back. No surgeries. But it's still fucked up. I feel the tension constantly, reminding me that one wrong move will be something I don't want to experience. I favor the injury, and work out around it. The way I hurt it would be almost comical, if it weren't so permanent. I was removing a urinal from a wall. Disconnected everything, and scraped the caulking off. However the caulk was still holding it as it seeped between the wall and urinal. So I was pulling, and pulling on it to get it to release thinking it would give in one place, and kinda of peel off. Well it didn't. I was giving it hell, and the whole thing came off at once. I started going over backwards urinal in hands... and i locked up to prevent going over, and POW! I heard the pop. The next day I couldn't walk. I was good and fucked up for a week so bad I couldn't work. It slowly, very, very slowly got better. Better being a relative term. It will never be like it was before. But I have to keep going.

My wife had an L5-S1 fusion about 15 years ago. It was impinging on her sciatic nerve and causing intense pain. Her surgeon said the fusion would fix that, but that she'd always have some pain in her spine. He wasn't lying. She saw another surgeon last fall, who told her he could do another fusion upwards, but that would stress the vertebrae above which would require yet another fusion eventually. She turned it down.

Start looking for meaning in something that isn't physically so challenging.
I was 'retired' after 3 decades of ems due to a bad back

my heart is still in it, L3,4&5 are not

recently my old mates reached out , seems they're short on the communications end of it all here in God's country

that i can still be an asset to my community gives my existence meaning

OP take note, i ain't done yet, and neither are you ;)

Did the first fusion affect the higher up disks ??

You could have ignored the thread. But no, you had to broadcast to the entire internet that you're a dick. Do you feel better? Did you get the attention you so desperately and pathetically desire?
Never pretended to be anyone but who I am, Son.

Don't like it?

Don't read my posts.

Leave it to a leftist to pretend being a dick is a virtue.
But you thought this was great, right?
