Something to consider for future reference: if mass food shortage event(s) goes down your average somewhat friendly fellow American will likely turn into a Food Zombie. Living in or next to or in walking distance of a city or town is a bad idea for this reason alone. You don't want herds of hungry food zombies flowing out of cities and towns, on the hoof and looking to raid your garden, livestock or pantry. Now if they want to eat some nice fat juicy politicians, more power to them.
