We suspect it is because Victoria Police have swung too far in the direction of appeasement, especially after the force was sued over racial profiling in the Flemington and North Melbourne areas.

Targeting people on the basis of race is despicable. But gangs have established themselves along broadly racial lines – gangs of African youths of Sudanese, Somalian and Eritrean descent, Islander gangs and more – and that demands concerted attention. When the advice of police is, as it has been in the Dandenong area, to walk away, get back in the car and drive away if a large group of teenagers approaches, you know we have a serious problem.
