HUD Wants to Make Living in a Tiny House or RV Illegal

Oh - Iceweasel - you do know that mobile homes and most modular homes are guaranteed to DE-preciate over time?
As soon as they leave the lot but that's beside the point. I've been in some really nice mobile homes and some really shitty fixed homes. But I thought we were discussing RVs and tiny homes?

Sheesh, how did those American pioneers ever survive in caves, log homes, dirt huts, holes in the ground, trees, tepees, a holey smelly deer skin .. whatever, without government help.....

I suspect when America goes over the economic cliff, many USMB liberals wont survive a week on their own.

They will legislate you right out of your house ...then move in.

Tiny houses or even RVs is still single living. The goal is to push people into tiny apartments.

Affordable or 'Offensive'? NYC Moves to Ease Rules on Tiny Apartments

Or even capsule apartments that is basically a bed. Living, cooking, bathrooms are all communal. That's what the goal of these laws really are.
I do work for a federal place that is nearly that, for the homeless that qualify. Little "cottages" but they have a bathroom and a place big enough for a bed and table. Some of them have flat panel TVs as big as the wall. All cooking and dining is in the main center.

Well, at that point it wont do them much good, a stockpile of weapons and ammunition is hard to legislate.

They'll be eating each other, the Liberal Walking Dead is my guess.

When I was looking for an apartment, I saw one in Santa Monica that was basically just a bed and a tv screen built into the wall. Storage was under the bed. The bathroom and shower was like you would find in a gym. There was a communal kitchen with assigned cabinets and a fridge on the honor system. There was also one large social room with work stations to plug in a laptop. The assumption was that people would seldom be home anyway.

HUD Wants to Make Living in a Tiny House or RV Illegal

The tiny house movement has taken America by storm, in part because our economy is in the toilet. People are striving to reduce theirexpenses by embracing minimalism. They’re breaking free from the corporate grind because, as I’ve always advised, they are learning to live with less and radically reducing their expenses.

But, these days in America, you are sharply admonished when you try to live your life outside of the strictures of the 9-5 world. Is it any surprise that the government is now takingsteps to limit our ability to drastically reduce our expenses? They always seem to make illegal anything we try to do to be more independentand moving into a tiny house appears to be the next on their list.

HUD has proposed the following law:

This proposed rule would modify the current exemption for recreational vehicles in the Manufactured HomeProcedural and Enforcement Regulations. Under the current exemption, questions have arisen regarding whether park modelrecreational vehicles are regulated by HUD’s manufactured home program. These park models are being produced with patio roofs, screened in porches, and other extensions that exceed the 400 square foot maximum exemption in the current regulations. Additionally, some of these models are being marketed as suitable for year round living. HUD’s proposed rule would permit recreational vehicle manufactures to certify that a unit is exempted from HUD’s regulations. Specifically, HUD’s proposed rule would define a recreational vehicle as a factory build vehicular structure, not certified as a manufactured home, designed only for recreational use and not as a primary residence or for permanent occupancy, and built and certified in accordance with either the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1192-2015, Standard for Recreational Vehicles, or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A119.5-15, Recreational Park Trailer Standard. In addition, to provide consumers notice regarding the manufacturing standards used to construct the unit, HUD’s rule would require that units claiming the exemption display a notice that identifies the standards used to construct the unit and states that the unit is designed only for recreational use, and not as a primary residence or permanent dwelling.

That’s right – if this law is passed, living full time in a tiny house or an RV may become illegal in April of this year.

but...but....republicans want to be in your bedroom...........right?

the Borg drones of the democrat party fail to realize that the threat to their freedom is not conservative but the very democrats they vote for........the democrats cannot stop creating more and more controls on every aspect of the lives of people....it is in their DNA..they must control.......so when a democrat says that the democrats don't care about your sex life.....that is delusional thinking........they care about everything else in your life....including the size of your home...yet they won't eventually get around to your sex life....that is reality dyslexia.........and you can already see it on college campuses and the way they want to control how public bathrooms are run......

So thinking that a political movement that is obsessed with the size of your home...isn't going to obsess with every other aspect of your life....is hysterical.....

Then the entire state of Oregon will be homeless in May..

I like the small houses.
many dont want or cant afford large houses.
Too many people have RVs, so those are not going anywhere

--------------------------------- sure , small houses make sense as they cost less money to heat , cool and maintain . I had a chance to get a caboose built in 1880 . I could have had it delivered to my 10 acres and set up on trucks [the wheels] on a small section of ties and Rails . I didn't pursue the idea as I was interested in other things . It woulda cost me nothing as I had connections . Put in a composting toilet , heat it on wood like I heated my house , Run a water line from my well . Heck , helluva neat place to live or at least a guest house .------------------------------- this was in the very early 80s in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan !!

I think these people have small refers in their hovels. They have wifi too, I installed the booster that sends it out to the far lots. There's a waiting list to get in.

To be fair, you didn't have to worry about HUD in 1880 either.

Eh, I'm a Republican and I hate admitting it but they're not much better than your regular, run of the mill, middle of the road Democrat. The extremes left and right are completely nuts in my humble opinion.

Every American should have the opportunity for a good job, the opportunity to work hard and live the American dream. The government that wants dependency and control is out of control, it's just that the Democrats are in your face about it, it's pathetically obvious to anyone willing to employ critical thought.

The Party or candidate that's willing to fight the power brokers that control the politicians and stand in the way of the poor and middle-class successful and fruitful lives is my kinda candidate.

Bernie has it half right but Trump is the closest to my hopes. Granted, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being perfection .. Trump's about a 6.5 and the rest suck far worse. Trump can't help but spill the beans on things, inadvertently the American people will know what the hell is going on in consistently failing Washington D.C. My vote at this point, 4 years for Trump then if he's a failure kick the bum out and hope all over again.

It would be hard to screw up worse than obama. All the issues are nice but in a shitty economy your options are limited. I think he's be the best for the economy.

Why don't you read your own post? They aren't going to outlaw anything. RVs currently aren't being built to the standards allowed for permanent housing. They want to change the rules to allow some to be built to different standards that will allow them to be used for permanent housing.

Sadly, I think the economic cliff is inevitable but we can still dream, no tax on that particular dream.
