Because the offer has been made of a vote on a specific date and specifically on that question. Senate Republicans do not have to grant that vote. It's a concession, and very likly the ONLY concession that Democrats can get out of this. It's a face-saver.

"I've told them. I said, and I've said, 'We are willing to have the conversation.' I've said, 'If you need a vote, we can guarantee you get a vote by a date certain.' At some point Democrats have to take yes for an answer," Thune said in the interview, which was taped Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters Thursday afternoon that Republicans did not offer any proposal to vote to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies, putting congressional leaders at odds as the shutdown continues.

Schumer is lying. Thune has been very public with this offer.

"Look, we're not negotiating in public. Plain and simple," Schumer said when asked if Thune had made the offer. "Leader Thune has not come to me with any proposal at this point."

Oh.

Not good enough to make the offer. Schumer expects Thune to come to him hat-in-hand. But I suppose he should go to AOC first. She said that Trump has to sign something before she will allow the government to be funded.

This is so transparent. Democrats do not want a vote on extending COVID Supplemental Subsidies for ACA. Which is very weird when they might actually win such a vote. MTG will vote for it, as would many other Republican lawmakers have consituents who the media has convinced are about to be asked to pay a couple of thousand per month in ACA premiums.

That don't really care about that, is my point. That was their negotiable demand, along with the half Billion for CPB. The nonegotiable is Medicaid for people granted "legal status" after crossing the border illegally during the Biden Administration.

That's what they mean when they tout a "Republican healthcare crises," that those "legalized" illegals will not get free healthcare and might self-deport with that as the last straw.

Republicans need to stand firm.
They have absolutely no reason not to.

Even the Democrats' own media is calling them out for claiming it is all Republicans fault that the government has shutdown. We finally found a Dem lie that the media will not breathlessly report as fact.

Republicans can ride out a shutdown indefinitely, due to having a GOP president in the White House calling the spending shots. The overwhelming majority of federal employees are Dem voters, with many being Dem donors. Most welfare dolles, especially the multi-generational dependency class vote Democrat if they vote at all.

The Democrat's demand - that Republicans agree that they have created a "healthcare crises" (under Obamacare!), and that the Republicans somehow solve that crises to the Democrats' satisfaction - is ludicrous and they know it. What they expected was for the GOP to engage in negotiations with that demand as the starting point. I have not seen any Republicans lawmaker say that is a good idea.

Anyone, know the Dems' endgame here?

It's already October. It's late in the year all the Demoncraps want to do is keep licking shit out of illegal alien rapist ass cracks.

Congress should just recess until next spring.

It must sting now that GOP is shaking in their boots. Even Thune has suggested Johnson bring the House back into session.

How are they shaking in their boots?

By Allah!

You guys will say anything!

I think the Dems are stuck between mollifying their TDS base and facing increased public disapproval for shutting down the government. I wonder if Trump could declare a national emergency, revalue the Treasury's gold assets, and run the government from the proceeds? This could kill the Democrats in next year's elections.
