The 1948 war was called the war that wasn't. Lebanon only had a few thousand troops and could barely defend its border. Syria was not much better. They moved a little way around Lake Tiberius before retreating. Egypt only managed to defend the Gaza Strip. The Zionists and Britain promised to give the West Bank to Jordan. Then they ***** about what Jordan did. And it is irrelevant because the Palestinians were out of that loop. What does it matter? This is the Israel and Palestine forum. What happened between 1948 and 1967 under Jordanian Occupation:
Running.......Tinmore? Always running from what things mean?
Why is that?
One more thing:
The "West Bank" was not known as the "West Bank" until 1950, two years after the Hashemites and the British took the land from Israel to begin with.
So, the British who had already left and were done with their Mandate for Palestine in 1948, could not have promised Jordan, the Hashemites anything, especially since the British had already illegally given TranJordan to the Hashemites in 1925.
The poor Hashemites. Kicked out of their ancient homeland in Arabia, descendants of Mohammad, and nobody cared to fight or much less give them their homeland back.
So they had to content with some Jewish Homeland the British decided to give to them.

Jordan, with Iraq, was the only real threat. Jordan, unlike the other Arab states, believed in the partition and wanted to incorporate the Arab portion into Jordan. The promise was made if Jordan did not attack Israel in the upcoming 1948 war. It was unclear what exactly was promised as Israel made a beeline to Jerusalem. Besides that, there was very little fighting between the two.
