It is and was fairly well know in the New York real estate world that Donald Trump was a deadbeat and that his word was shit. He had to go overseas to get financing because no one would lend him money. The people who apparently lent the deadbeat money were Russian oligarchs and the Russian mafia. With Russian oligarchs and syndicate members there is always a quid pro quo. I am sure in return for a loan he agreed to launder money. It is as simple as that.
