1. I would have questioned my superiors about the wisdom of such a move.

2. I would have felt regret / frustration / anger for being forced to leave when the military's job
is to protect US citizens, to be their shield, to 'be the last ones on the plane out'.

Being unable to do nothing except pray - which is far from doing 'nothing' - sucks.
