How much do you need to win by for you to have a "mandate"?

Now, obviously, you only win with electoral votes; "winning" the popular vote and $1.00 will buy large Diet Coke at Wendy's.

So, how many EVs do you need to legitimately claim a mandate?

Does that number apply to both sides, or just one?
I ask because we all know people who will argue "Trump didn't win by enough to claim a mandate" will also argue "Harris won, period, so she has a mandate".

270 is a win.

I'd say 290 is a mandate.

(personal opinion)

Plus 20 percent of the popular vote.

270 plus the popular vote plus gains in The Senate and The House for your party would certainly be a mandate.

Trump has never had a "mandate" from the Republican Party, much less the nation.

You have to win both the popular vote AND the Electoral College, and the House, to have a "mandate". You can win the Senate with fewer votes because small rural states with low populations have just as many Senators as Texas, Florida, or California. The Senators who confirmed ACB to the SC, were elected by 1.5 million FEWER voters than the Senators who voted against confirming her.

If you have all three branches of government, and the popular vote, you have an overwhelming mandate.

All of the Presidents inflicted on the nation by the Electoral College, and who did not have the support of the people, were failures, as Presidents - Trump being the worst failure of all.

In my opinion, if you win a supermajority in both houses and you win the white house that's a mandate.
