You Cannot lose Weight by Exercising

The math also proves this finding. Running one mile only burns about a hundred extra calories; one pound is approximately equal to 3,500 calories. You would have to run 35 miles over a period of time and not increase your intake, in order to lose one pound. Ain't happening.
Back in the day it was walking 70 miles to lose a pound of weight. Our bodies are very efficient at managing energy.

I have had this "discussion" for decades. I started running (for cardio-vascular health) when I was 25 and ran until I was 65, and never lost an ounce other than dropping a few pounds of sweat on a particularly long, summer run. Many people have told me I was full of shit, and I have seen scores of advertisements claiming that one gadget or form of exercise will lead to significant weight loss. Now a leading sports doctor confirms what I've known all along...

"The truth is that our expectations are misguided. Large studies show that exercise alone usually produces modest weight loss, often just a few pounds over six months. That’s because your body will “correct” for the extra activity by increasing your appetite or by lowering the calories burned for other bodily functions.

I believe that exercise helps a diet along, which is why diet-plus-new exercise can be effective, but don't buy a new gym membership expecting to lose weight from three sessions a week in the gym. You won't.

There is a relatively new exercise thing showing up on my Facebook feed, claiming that Tai Chi, or "chair Yoga" will magically help old men to lose weight, Gimmeafukkinbreak. That is bullshit on steroids.

Exercise is cool and has many benefits, but losing weight is not one of them.

Good stuff. I've said for many years that the battle is won or lost with a knife and fork. I know that from my own experience.

I lost weight because of stress, getting braces, and changing my diet.

I went from 254lbs to 217 in 6 months.

No running. I'm too old to be running all of the time.
I've listened to weight loss opinions for all of my 75 years and have never really understood. I was really underweight for the first 30 years or so in spite of consuming 3K+ calories/day with no exercise regimen. After marriage and during my blue collar career, I maintained about 175 lbs until my late 50s (reached a high of 200). After retirement, I have returned to 175 and only fluctuate a pound or two. I eat when my body says its hungry and consume a balanced diet. I believe it is metabolism that you are born with. I was very fortunate, IMO.

I went most of my first 30 years being underweight....until I went to survival school and only ate one live chicken in 2 weeks.
Forced starvation kind of changes your appetite.

When I joined the Army I started running PT 5 days a week and I lost 20 pounds.

It all depends on how much you run and how often.

Best way to lose weight that I know of is stay away from carbs and walk every day.
Army diet is heavy on the protein. That'll help lose weight.

True. I stopped eating bananas and lost three pounds in one month.
