• Probably five to nine were saved because those Cubans are well trained and have the best equipment.

Would you guess that President Trump saved the lives of less than five USA special forces personnel by NOT informing Congress of the specifics on the plans to arrest Maduro?

Or would you guess that President Trump likely saved the lives of six to ten USA military personnel by NOT telling Congress the specific plans?

Those Cuban mercenaries and bodyguards who were protecting Maduro were well trained, were backed up with Chinese intelligence, and had the best equipment that drug money could buy so many USA soldiers would probably have died if Trump had informed Congress of the specifics of the plans to arrest Maduro!

Bingo! I remember when Reagan was thumping his chest and playing badass because he bombed civilians in Libya. The payback was an American airliner blown up over Scotland. People are no longer impressed with our big bad military that lost in Vietnam and Iraq.
He saved no lives. This thing is not over.

Do not know if he saved any lives but I have no doubt there would have been at least one democrat informing Maduro what was coming.
You MAGATS really need to quit this shit. This is a lie.

These guys are probably going to watch Trump begin a military "intervention" that the next President will have to pull us out of. Of course it is highly possible that Trump declares a war in the upcoming mnths then suspends elections.

Dems would have happily spilled the blood of our soldiers if they thought leaking the operation would work to their political advantage.

Dems wanted to see many dead American soldiers to make it easier to blame Trump.

Now they and JackOfNoTrades prays for the restructuring of VZ to go badly with much internal war, etc, and for things to fall apart and drag on to give them something to run against in the midterms.

So what if it means many lives? They will just blame Trump either way.

Notifying the gang of 8 was the minimum protocol, and zero of the gang of 8 would have released or leaked the notice by the Trump admin.

I believe that you are absolutely correct!

Your assessment of the reality of what President Trump was up against is brilliant. I believe that President Trump knew that in order to save the lives of the heroic USA soldiers he had to risk angering Congress!

So what did President Trump decide was the most important?

President Trump felt that it was more important to do all that he could do to prevent the deaths of several if not even ten or more USA soldiers so he decided to put USA soldiers first and risk angering Congress, [even if this led to another attempt to impeach him]!

I predict a surge in enlistments in the USA military over the coming months to two years!

That is exactly the impression that I also have of the USA Congress. For the record the "Ottawa Swamp" is no better. Evidence is coming out that we Canadians have been sold to the highest bidder over this past decade. It seems like one of the highest bidders back in 2019 and 2020, was Big Pharma?

Thank you for this interesting and informative comment that got me searching.

The Gang of Eight is a colloquial term for a set of eight leaders within the United States Congress who are briefed on classified intelligence matters by the executive branch. Specifically, the Gang of Eight includes the leaders of each of the two parties from both the Senate and House of Representatives, and the chairs and ranking minority members of both the Senate Committee and House Committee for intelligence as set forth by 50 U.S.C. § 3093(c)(2).

Under normal conditions, the President of the United States is required by Title 50 U.S.C. § 3091(a)(1) to "ensure that the congressional intelligence committees are kept fully and currently informed of the intelligence activities of the United States, including any significant anticipated intelligence activity as required by [the] title." However, under "extraordinary circumstances", when the President thinks "it is essential to limit access" to information about a covert action, 50 U.S.C. § 3093(c)(2) allows the President to limit reporting.

The term "Gang of Eight" gained wide use in coverage of the controversial warrantless surveillance of American citizens by the National Security Agency under the George W. Bush administration, in the context that no members of Congress other than the Gang of Eight were informed of the program, and they were forbidden to disseminate knowledge of the program to other members of Congress. The Bush administration asserted that the briefings delivered to the Gang of Eight sufficed to provide Congressional oversight of the program and preserve the checks and balances between the executive and legislative branches.[1]

The non-partisan Congressional Research Service prepared a legal analysis on January 18, 2006 that noted: "If the NSA surveillance program were to be considered an intelligence collection program, limiting congressional notification of the NSA program to the Gang of Eight, which some Members who were briefed about the program contend, would appear to be inconsistent with the law, which requires that the 'congressional intelligence committees be kept fully and currently informed of all intelligence activities', other than those involving covert actions."

I don't believe the question is phrased properly. If Trump had informed Congress, democrats would have leaked it and the operation would have to have been called off.
