So you should get a private plan then? One that allows you to deal directly with the insurance company? So that when you move they can triple your rates or deny you coverage due to pre-existing conditions since private plans do not fall under HIPAA regulations? Yea, that's a great idea. In fact that is why I no longer have insurance.
That's a by product of government intervention on State and Federal levels, allow insurance to be portable. There is no perfect plan unless one is self insured I suppose.
The fact is that the insurance companies don't want insurance being portable. If they did, the company I was with would have gladly given me a similar policy at a similar price in my new state. In fact, they told me that was what would happen. My bad for not getting it in writing. When I got to my new state, they said I was misinformed.
Like I've said before, it has become obvious to me that these companies are only interested in their bottom lines and will do whatever they can to remove anyone they can who might cost them some money. The only option for those like me is to go self-pay for the treatments I can afford while losing the catastrophic coverage. But even that has become one major headache as these doctors are forcing me through one ring after another just to get to see the specialist I need.
I've called numerous GI's since that is what I need, and they won't see me until I get a referral from a family doctor, even though I was being treated by a GI before moving here.
