Now, I find this an interesting quote. Unlike a lot of the other quotes from jefferson that seem to profligate on the Internet by Wingnuts, this one seems to be genuine.

Here's the interesting part. Jefferson was a slave-owner. He lived very well in a big mansion and got to make big speeches (when he wasn't raping Sally Hemmings) because hundreds of slaves worked very hard on his plantation growing tobacco and such. So I have to wonder who the parasite and who the industrious is in that equation, exactly.

Hmmmm.. Except no one ever cured a disease that way. Usually, they have labs set up, often with government grants, and cures are found by thousands of researchings testing things, which are usually declared "intellectual property" of people who had nothing to do with developing them.

I can think of one example of someone finding a cure for something. Jonas Salk found a cure for Polio, the scourge of the early 20th Century. And even though he could have patented it and reaped billions of dollars not one person would have begrudged him.

He gave the patent away to get the medicine mass produced to reach the maximum number of people. Which is why none of us even know what Polio is other than from a History Book.
