actually, that isn't true as far as i can tell. I think Afghanistan was rudderless for all of Bush's tenure there... I'm glad it's being focused on now. But if there isn't some strategy and a true reason for being there, it's time to get out. I don't think reasonable people would disagree on that.

But threads like this are just more of the "k's' idiocy...

you haven't been here to see it for long. but it's a quite a thing to behold.

and i don't think it should be used for partisanship either. i'd like to see intelligent decisions made and then get the troops out if there's no reason to be there.

Iraq strategy is similar to what Bush laid out with a removal of troops from hot zones and a gradual drawdown.

Bush did not care about Afghanistan. In his mind he had declared victory and was content to let the Taliban slowly reestablish themselves. As much as I'd like to just say screw it..pull everyone out, Unless the Afghan government (if you would call it that) can maintain some type of control, the Taliban will reestablish power and welcome back AlQaeda

Jillian, BHO has had McChrystal's recommendation for Afghanistan since before Labor Day and is still not acting on or against that rec. He's sitting on it - possibly because he has a more integrated strategy for the region (I hope). But no, he has not indicated he has any different strategy at all.

But I agree that this sort of thread - using the troops and military for some partisan point (using them as petty tools) - is something I do not respect at all.

Afghanistan is a real disaster at this point. Hopey Changey has shown no interest in helping our kids out over there. Ten more kids were massacred over the weekend and not a peep out of the man. Instead he's getting ready to put on another one of his face-time press conference shows to push his Socialist health care boondoggle. Yea I think we're all getting pretty sick of his whiny health care press conferences at this point. The people just don't want his oppressive Socialist agenda. Enough is enough on that one. It's time to move on. The man is clearly not committed to winning in Afghanistan. It's time for our kids to come home. They are not getting any real support from this President and it's just not fair to our kids. What are they dying for at this point? Their own Commander in Chief has simply sold them out at this point. Mr. President,you have failed our kids so please bring them home right now!

Trust me, I am ALL for bringing them home. Just one of the many reasons I voted for Obama. However, I also am intelligent enough to know that once we have destabilized a country as we have in both Iraq and Afghanistan, you can't just snap your fingers and pick up and pull everybody out. I KNEW when I voted for Obama, the drawdown would take time. It was either this strategy, or McCain's "100 more years" strategy. Which did you vote for?

The President is also very much aware that the generals kept saying the same thing to LBJ, too... and he kept sending troops into Vietnam for zero reason.

Personally, I think if you're going to risk lives and waste money, there should be a good reaason besides bolstering a corrupt and weak government.

Now, if they have a legitimate strategy, I'm all for a bit of investment. But not just because McChrystal says so.... Unlike the prior eight years, I'd like some intelligent decisions made about the use of our resources... which are already stretched thin.
