The founders intended the 2nd amendment to allow the people to protect their freedom from the government.
That was the late 1700s when muskets and cannons were high tech and anyone could own one or make one.
Exactly how does that translate to the present day. Even if every American is armed with a fully auto M-16 we could never begin to defeat our own army. It would be over in a few days.
So what's the thought here on people that think the 2nd amendment somehow is the same as in 1780? We'd have to have tanks, helicopters, F-18s, aircraft carriers, and nukes.
So other than for personal protection what does the 2nd amendment to for us?
