How Black Was Jesus?

Since the Romans and the early evangelists weren't that big into skin color, it is really hard to tell.

All we can figure is that since he had an outdoor occupation for most of his life, he was probability pretty tanned, and maybe even pretty buff. He is refered to as a Nazerine, so he probably looked like

Even today in the Lebanon/Syria area, most folks look pretty pale. Hard to know.

Israelis do come in many colors.

What about the Book of Mormon? Did Joe Smith ever speak about the color of Jesus' skin?

I wonder because for ages the Mormon Church would have prevented Jesus from entering their Temples.

Hell, Jesus turned water into wine.

That alone would have fucked him with the Mormons.

It wasn't alcoholic, learn history dumb shit.

It was alcoholic but low content as it was always watered down.
It had to have alcoholin it as the water was not drinkable in those times in most areas.
That is history. Natural fermentation never produces the alcohol content that man can.
Remember when the Good Samaritan used wine as an antiseptic? Why?
Because it had alcohol in it.
Jesus was a Jew and Jews drank alcoholic wine at Passover.
Modern ideas about alcohol and sin were never applicable in the times of Jesus. That notion is a myth of the last few hundred years.

Jewish folk probably would have been a bit darker back before they took 2000 years to scatter themselves across and mix with Europe, only to stage a systematic faith-based return to the Eastern Mediterranean starting in the 1940's.

Same color mix would occur now if all Christians were called to move to the homeland of their faith.

hmmm, good point.

Do the Mormon flock know this or are they kept in ignorance?

Those don't look like Sephardic Jews who stayed behind on the wiki/Iberian_Peninsula or like the Semitic people of the area, or even the Greeks of that time.

Would not people of Jesus' time look like others born in that region?

After all, Jesus (supposing he existed at all) had no Northern European relations and even the British Isles of that time had not seen a White Anglo Saxon yet.

Suetonius mentions Christians as being a general nuscence by the time of Nero. So in 25 years they went from 1 guy and 12 buds to a movement that was causing major grief in the capital. Pretty good speed for a movement in the 1st century.

They didn't have the internet back then, of course. :p

Yeah, Jesus recruited his day's versions of the wife beaters, dead beat dads, cheating spouses, illegals, homos, prostitutes,, murderers, thieves, leftists, commies, socialists---they all reformed and tithed---sort of like the born agains today----reformed wife beaters, dead beat dads, cheating spouses, illegals, homos, prostitutes,, murderers, thieves, leftists, commies, socialists.

Just say you believe and all is forgiven.

Yeah, the non believers have a monopoly on moral behavior alright.
Loon.

The non-believers are not the ones running candidates on morality platforms, only to catch the hypocrites they elect with their pants down.

As I recall, the disciples included a physician (luke) and three fishermen. The only one with notoriety as a bad actor was Matthew, who was a tax farmer.

The rest of them we don't know much about.

He did hang out in low places, but so does the Salvation Army. And for the same reasons.

I remember reading something by an early church father, or a monk who described Jesus as very dark skinned.

By today's standards how black would Jesus be? Blacker than Obama?

seriously.

Profiling at an airport: would Jesus fit the description of a suspected terrorist?

The race of Jesus has been a subject of debate since at least the nineteenth century. The physical appearance of Jesus of Nazareth was debated by theologians from early on in the history of Christianity, though with no explicit emphasis on race.

Different societies have depicted Jesus and most other biblical figures as their own ethnicity in their art; for example he is primarily white in the West. The current dominant opinion among historians and scientists is that he was most likely a Galilean Jew and thus would have features which resemble modern-day persons of Middle Eastern or Semitic descent.

Jesus was a Jew from the tribe of Judah. He was olive skinned like every other Jew and he definitely was not white with blond hair and blue eyes nor was he black like obama (Sorry Rev Wright;)).

How desperate for attention is Dante?
