House GOP to Unveil 'Bold' Midterm Agenda

I got no problem with most of Scalese's list, BUT -

Standing up to bullies around the world maybe isn't always the right or smart thing to do. Spilling American blood and fighting someone else's battles needs to be carefully thought out. Personally, I don't want anymore long wars, we need to have skin in the game or pretty much stay home. And if we do go fight somewhere, define the mission and the goals, get the job done, and GTFO.
I think they definitely need to ditch the "always stand up to bullies" plank. That has got us into trouble too many times already.

Putin's Ukraine move make no sense to me, unless he's enjoying the bonus gas and oil revenue and wants some territorial gains? Russia's economy is about the size of Italy's, so he really can't go toe-to-to with NATO. He's bluffing, and Xiden is helping him telling Ukraine that Russia REALLY plans to invade so get ready. If he attacks Ukraine we'll see how good his military is.
It makes perfect sense.

We reacted quite badly to Russia becoming the dominant influence over Cuba, he is reacting to our influence over Ukraine. This is a direct result of failed ideas under Obama's FP agenda. Unfortunately, we are half assing it again. Either we commit to bringing Ukraine closer to the west or we accept that it remains under Russian influence. These half ass measures only end up in failures that cost lives.

I think somebody was getting cute with politically correct lingo trying to coopt it. No biggie though

We reacted well to the USSR's partnering with Castro via the Monroe Doctrine.
This is our playground, stay the fuck out, especially your ICBMs.

Totally agree Obama and Dr. Fiona Hill screwed-up US policy regarding Ukraine by not sending lethal aid, so Putin took Crimea and a big bite out of eastern Ukraine (Donbas).
NATO should have admitted them early on when Russia was still floundering. Now Putin has control of Russia lots of oil and gas money, and he's pushing the envelope. Crimea was easy, now he's playing 3-D Chess with us over Ukraine. I'm in the camp that Ukraine sinks or swims on their own. They are 40m people with a 250,000 man standing army. With modern weapons they could be formidable. Or they learn to speak Russian. Putin also needs to factor in severe sanctions. Can China bail him out? That's a tough pill to swallow.

He knows NATO won't act. NATO requires an iron hand of leadership from the US to act on anything. They won't act.
NATO is providing military aid continuously, including anti-tank weapons, anti-aircraft weapons, and artillary. True, NATO won't fight the Russians since Ukraine is not a NATO member, but the weapons and sanctions would really hurt Russia. I hope Putin is not that stupid.

Yah, but they won't fight.

Obama and Fiona Hill helped Russia gain more control over their region, set up sweet heart deals with them for weapons deals with Iran, even giving Iran the money to buy Russian Scientists and Nuclear Centrifuges. And his Secretary of State, Clinton took Millions in Bribes from Russia in exchange for Putin gaining control of Uranium One.

Obama was a friend to terrorists and tyrants around the world.

Rep. Steve Scalise to Newsmax: House GOP to Unveil 'Bold' Midterm Agenda

House Republicans are working on a "bold, conservative agenda" like former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's "Contract With America," so it can work to retake the majority on what the GOP is for instead of merely running on President Joe Biden's failures, according to Rep. Steve Scalise, R-S.C., on Newsmax.

"We're working on a really good, bold conservative agenda," Scalise told Tuesday's "Spicer & Co." "We've talked to Newt. We've talked to others, and what we want to do is roll that out in the next few months as we get closer to the election."

The Republican message needs to be focused on an agenda of issues instead of relying on "how bad the policies of Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi are," Scalise told co-hosts Sean Spicer and Lyndsay Keith.

"They want to know what we stand for, and we're going to be showing them what we stand for on every issue that people are facing," he added.

Among the big-ticket items ticked down by Scalise:
  • Parents' input on their kids' education.
  • School choice.
  • Economic recovery.
  • Securing the border.
  • Standing up to "bullies around the world."
  • Keeping kids in school amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Those are going to be things that we're going to be rolling out: You know, a good commitment to America that people can rally around," Scalise said. "Again, they know how bad the Democrats are. We're going to win the House back next year by rallying behind a real exciting, bold conservative agenda that people can contrast to what Biden has done to destroy this economy and the make America weaker all around the world."

We don't need bold new content, we need them to DO THEIR DAMN JOB!

This is great. I think another item could be incentivizing workers, rather than rewarding them for not working. A good start would be to divert the money for “enchanced” child tax credit for couples earning $100,000 and more to a federal bonus, payable to workers upon completion of 90 days of work. This way, we could get all those retail and restaurant workers who quit part-time jobs because they are getting so much free money from the child support payments back to the jobs they quit.

It was not lethal aid Obama screwed up, we medaled in their election. THAT is where they screwed up. By interfering in Ukraine government they pushed Russia into a corner. The port there is a massive asset for Russia, which is why we were likely messing with them in the first place, and that forced Putin to make a move. Obama, apparently, thought Russia would not be able to do anything because they simply do not have the economic might to leverage Ukraine. Obama was an idiot, they leveraged what they had which was military might.

Just let them handle it is a massive over simplification that we are dealing with not to mention the idea that withdrawing US leadership from the world stage does not lead to major problems is naïve in a massive way. There will be leadership, the question is if that leadership comes from a beacon of democracy or from a dictator in all but name (or even just an outright dictator as in China).

Biden has the ball now and it is his job to get this under control. So far it looks as though he is to fucking incompetent's to do anything other than screw shit up though and that is flatly unacceptable.
