House Democrats are preventing President Trump from withdrawing troops from Afghanistan and Germany.

The US military has been fighting in Afghanistan for almost nineteen years, and House Democrats, working in tandem with key pro-war GOP lawmakers such as Rep. Liz Cheney, are ensuring that continues.

Last night, the House Armed Services Committee voted overwhelmingly in favor of an amendment — jointly sponsored by Democratic Congressman Jason Crow of Colorado and Congresswoman Cheney of Wyoming — prohibiting the expenditure of monies to reduce the number of U.S. troops deployed in Afghanistan below 8,000 without a series of conditions first being met.

The imposed conditions are by no means trivial: for these troop reductions from Afghanistan to be allowed, the Defense Department must be able to certify, among other things, that leaving Afghanistan “will not increase the risk for the expansion of existing or formation of new terrorist safe havens inside Afghanistan” and “will not compromise or otherwise negatively affect the ongoing United States counter terrorism mission against the Islamic State, al Qaeda, and associated forces.”

The Crow/Cheney amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) last night passed by a vote of 45-11. The NDAA was then unanimously approved by the Committee by a vote of 56-0. It authorizes $740.5 billion in military spending — roughly three times more than the world’s second-highest spender, China.

I think the amendment is meaningless unless it passes the senate and trump signs it

Just because he is the supreme commander it doesn't mean he gets to throw the units around on the chess board as he pleases..
You going to volunteer to be one of those troops in AFG? Then STFU about troop withdrawals.
I have already volunteered and served my time so at ease with that hard-on..Again troops do what the group who has their purse strings says and it aint Donald.

Looks like we will be in Afghanistan forever then. Endless war is what the entrenched establishment wants, Trump has to go, hes bad for business though its ironic that it was always the left screaming bring our troops home when Bush was in office.
Or maybe this is just a political ploy because they dont want Trump to get credit for anything before an election. It could possibly be that if Biden is elected the bar will be moved once again to make it easier to remove the troops. These democrats are hard to figure out, they keep doing a 180 on everything depending on what suits them in the short term.

It is the corporations of war which keep them going and corporate interest in the areas of conflict for essentially a profit margin. Which identifies the true masters of the govt. and it is not the will of the people..

And now it appears to be the will of the Dims.

I guess this proves who the real war mongers are. As usual, it's the damn democommie asshats.

Donald could sign the spending bill and then order the troops out of Afghanistan pursuant to his Constitutional power as Commander-in-Chief.

Also known as lying sacks of (#@%$).... typical Democrat.

The demented Democrats have been squawking about drawing down the troops in foreign lands for years.
But now that Trump wants troop reductions, the looney liberals have suddenly turned in to war mongering neocons.
Go figure..... :cuckoo: ...
I've been squawking about our demented foreign policies since I was 8 years old and saw my neighbors' son come back from Vietnam in a flag-draped coffin, but I never identified as a Democrat. I understand what you're saying but the truth is that the Democratic party hijacked the true liberals ( pro-environment, anti-war ...), which is why I eventually voted for Jill Stein in 2016....and why I'm a Trump supporter now.

in that case you as a loyal apologist for the democrats have to concede its the dems who are the war party and in bed with the corporations

If you'd ever learn something called patience you'd realize that the review will not take forever. As far as I am concerned both parties have plenty of blood on their hands from imperial colonist games.

I smell a breach of the Constitution with this act. It's the President's job to deal with the military, not the House.

And this has to pass the Senate as well, with the House trying to place ALL MILITARY POWER in the wicked hands of Nancy Pelosi, the most evil woman who ever walked the face of this planet. Miss Cheney, you were heinously duped.

Trump should withdraw the troops from AFG and then have the USSC say if he has the authority, after the election, like when he moved money to do the wall.
Agree, Congress cannot micromanage the Executive Branch.
