Horrifying Decline of the American Empire- Chris Hedges

Empires come and go and reemerge and fall again. Sadly we wont be any different. Human history. We'll fall and suffer for a few decades or even a century or so. Then we'll rise in a few centuries and the historians will say how the people of North America want to restore the power and glory of the old United States.

Happened to China and Russia and Japan and all over Europe. Hell world power used to rest in the Middle East.

So...enjoy life now bc we arent immune from the natural cycle of history.

Agree- The finality of our actions are defined as collapse yet we see the signs we are on that path, but make no diversion to the predicted and certain destiny.

I am not sure this is really true. The factors bring down America may end up being like what brought down Rome. Multiculturalism being the biggest factor. Is multiculturalism necessarily bad? Not at all if those of all cultures assimilate into the American culture and live as Americans of all races and creeds. But what see to day is the tearing of the very fabric of America. The essence of what it is to be American is being lost and once lost I think it will be lost forever. Yes, America will survive but the culture we see today will not. If we stay on the road we are on, and I don't see any change coming, then we are destined to become a second rate country and stay that way.

Hot Dogs, baseball and Apple Pie sure doesn't ring like it used to

The collapse won't be fun.

We only have ourselves to blame. We elect our leaders. America could have been exceptional. It's far from it now. We are just one more declining empire.

His perspective of the liberal class in the USA is powerful. Listen and consider,

"The presidential election exposed the liberal class as a corpse.

"It fights for nothing. It stands for nothing.

"It is a useless appendage to the corporate state. It exists not to make possible incremental or piecemeal reform, as it originally did in a functional capitalist democracy; instead it has devolved into an instrument of personal vanity, burnishing the hollow morality of its adherents.

"Liberals, by voting for Barack Obama, betrayed the core values they use to define themselves—the rule of law, the safeguarding of civil liberties, the protection of unions, the preservation of social welfare programs, environmental accords, financial regulation, a defiance of unjust war and torture, and the abolition of drone wars.

"The liberal class clung desperately during the long nightmare of this political campaign to one or two issues, such as protecting a woman’s right to choose and gender equality, to justify its complicity in a monstrous evil.

"This moral fragmentation—using an isolated act of justice to define one’s self while ignoring the vast corporate assault on the nation and the ecosystem along with the pre-emptive violence of the imperial state—is moral and political capitulation.

"It fails to confront the evil we have become.
