People get hung up on labels. And since so many people are (understandably) confused about what those labels mean, for purposes of discussing things in this environment, labels are guaranteed to evoke almost nothing but people debating what the words mean.
People also are into politics of cult personality. Hence we have the posts that now almost inevitably start out:
______________, the worst person in the world because they're a LABEL, bla bla bla bla bla.
Now these cult of personality post usually aren't really invitations to discuss anything rationally.
They are merely inflammatory invitations to insult people who disagree with the author's basic premise

can have serious issue policy driven discussions here, though.
But you're going to have to wade past a lot of honest and sincere, but terribly uninformed people in order to find the reality based posters.
And then, too you're going to have to ignore the trolls who simply post the most inflamatory things they can think of just to evoke similarly inflamatory responses from people who take them seriously.
So this place, like most of these places, might be a good place to learn something from people who are informed.
But if nothing else, they are also places where one can truly see just how difficult it is to get through to the the
uneducated (and damned proud of it, too) crowd.
