I was involved in political discussions with members of another board. I was depressed and dis-heartened by the amount of people who thought socialism/communism was a good and viable form of government. I am conservative/libertarian with an insatiable, bordering OCD, for the truth in history. I will probably start out slow, until I get my feet wet, then promptly land on the heads of people who ignore the realities, of the misery, that communism and socialism bring to the people that have to live under those conditions. Looking forward to getting to know everyone....G

Sounds like the old MSNBC board.......I was their worst fuckin' nightmare. Thing is, they used to permanently ban me all the time. I'm pretty well off and would just whip out the plastic and change IP's through my business lines on a whim.....It was like, ahhhhhhhh shit, he's baaaaack!.....It got to the point where they just gave up even tryin', and I would continue to wreak fuckin' havoc, daring 'em to ban me.......Fun times indeed!

People get hung up on labels. And since so many people are (understandably) confused about what those labels mean, for purposes of discussing things in this environment, labels are guaranteed to evoke almost nothing but people debating what the words mean.

People also are into politics of cult personality. Hence we have the posts that now almost inevitably start out:

______________, the worst person in the world because they're a LABEL, bla bla bla bla bla.​

Now these cult of personality post usually aren't really invitations to discuss anything rationally.

They are merely inflammatory invitations to insult people who disagree with the author's basic premise

You can have serious issue policy driven discussions here, though.

But you're going to have to wade past a lot of honest and sincere, but terribly uninformed people in order to find the reality based posters.

And then, too you're going to have to ignore the trolls who simply post the most inflamatory things they can think of just to evoke similarly inflamatory responses from people who take them seriously.

So this place, like most of these places, might be a good place to learn something from people who are informed.

But if nothing else, they are also places where one can truly see just how difficult it is to get through to the the uneducated (and damned proud of it, too) crowd.

You dont get to chose what people believe.

I suspect you dont even listen to what people believe you just label is what you want so you can knee jerk spew hate on anyone who doesnt share your ideas that have been proven failed ideas by history.
