Imagine someone jumping your fence and entering your property.

But, jumping a fence and entering someone's property puts you in danger of someone else making a poor decision, as the story shows.

they jumped the fence and when no one answered they explored the property. Then returned to the car to write a note asking for permission to use the property.

Hardly worth the cops and definitely not something to be shot over. The councilman is in big trouble rightly so.

Stupidity on both sides here. Fences mean KEEP OUT and the councilman will face charges because he had the gun even though he says it was an accident.

Sowell was always an interesting guy. Blots of people never put too much stock into what he'd write or worse, say on shows with talking heads.
