Homeland Security Wants To Tackle Climate Change As A Threat To National Security

Meanwhile the Dem pollution spewing, sewage spewing, human filth factories known as Dem cities continue to spread and obliterate the environment. Now that's change you can see from space. Apparently we need to ban Democrats to save the planet.

Obama undersecretary for science: climate ‘crisis’ is based on fallacy

They're right, of course.

But conservatives will do what they always do when the facts are not to their liking. They'll stick their heads in the sand and deny it.

But conservatives should realize something very near and dear to their hearts. If they hate illegal immigration now, imagine how they'll feel when climate change brings massive migration upon us as people flee famines, and an unsustainable living area as temperatures rise drastically and clean drinking water is in short supply.

It's going to naturally happen all over the world as temperatures rise and weather patterns change. In fact, just today I read an article about how Lake Mead water levels are dropping and have been dropping for years already. I believe it's almost a certainty that millions will die of thirst and starvation. But before that happens, out of sheer desperation people will flock towards other countries in droves in an effort to survive.

The same tripe has been repeated for DECADES, yet here we are. More senseless doom and gloom with absolutely no reason for any sane person to believe it.

Homeland Security is part of the awful legacy of George Bush and anything can be forced into the rubric
of a threat to this nation, except of course Homeland Security itself.

I don't trust the presstitutes to honestly cover the issue but a national debate on the issue with a fair
representation of all views would be nice so the media couldn't distort the matter...though they will.
It's what they do and they can't help but lie and color the facts to their pleasing.

But still, tell the people why we are all headed for doom and the end of earth as we know it.
And let the other side of the picture be known to all. The government doesn't have the guts for
an honest debate.

The evidence is there. If you don't want to look at it or even consider it, I don't really care because I can't be bothered trying to convince stupid people to have an open mind and be objective instead of closing their minds and turning a blind eye to what is happening all around us.

Familiarize yourself with Bjorn Lomborg, a Danish climatologist who doesn't deny global warming and
who also doesn't think the end of civilization is coming down the road.

What a refreshing change to hear from someone who doesn't think the sky is falling who critics cannot
call a "denier".
The Anti-Thunberg.

Things are changing all the time. You can check Google Earth now in their new time lapse photography to see the effects of climate change in any part of the world from 1984 to 2020. Part of the problem is that laypeople have a difficult time thinking in terms of geologic time which obviously starts long before you're born and continues long after you've died. But 1984 to 2020 is well within the average lifespan of the average person. That should give the average person pause because 36 years is a fraction of what's considered to be geologic time. If you need a translation, that means climate change is happening very fast. My best guess is that it's going to accelerate and happen even faster in the coming decades.

You need to be way more specific as to the 'changes' you are talking about. Nor does the imagery prove or disprove anything about climate much less human activity.

Glaciers and ice caps have been melting since the ice age ended. As to the rate and visuals, we don't know, because our sliver of time observing has no basis of comparison.

Of course there has historically been a spring and summer run-off period, but it was normally followed by an general increase in the snow pack during most winters. But they're now receding to the point that many if not most of the world's glaciers will be gone in a few decades. That will mean no more spring and summer run off. That will be a disaster for everyone who lives downstream.

It has been decades. The US has temperature readings at numerous sites going back to 1880.

The Keeling Curve told the tale regarding CO2 in Earth's atmosphere during the last 60 years.

And there are several reasons why the trend is going to accelerate.

1. A constantly growing population which hit 1 billion people for the first time approximately 217 years ago right around the dawn of the industrial age and which is projected to hit 8 billion people in only 2 years.

Years elapsed1233314131212121420

2. Increasing industrialization all over the world.
3. Once CO2 is in the atmosphere, it will affect climate for about 100 years.
4. As the polar caps melt, and there's less sea ice year round, there is more absorption of the sun's rays (which means less reflection back into space).

The one hope I have is for some kind of carbon capture technology which I saw about a year ago that Bill Gates and others are working on. Electric cars might help, and more energy efficient appliances/electronics might help too, but people have a seemingly insatiable desire for electricity for all kinds of uses, and they waste a lot of it.

People, in general, would need to change the way we have become accustomed to living as a matter of personal convenience. The era of one person driving a $35,000 POV some 20-25 miles to work and back every day would need to give way to living closer to work and shopping while relying more on mass transit.

I think the big wake up call will likely only happen when crops start to fail due to too much heat, not enough water, or even flooding.

The current worldwide practice of shipping every kind of product (food, textiles, electronics, autos, etc) thousands of miles away would have to change too. Unfortunately, I have serious doubts that people, in general, would willingly accept those drastic changes, and I know that American conservatives would fight it every step of the way. And even if that wasn't true, I don't believe that oil companies (not to mention the oil-producing countries) would willingly turn their backs on trillions of dollars worth of oil and gas production. I guess the bottom line is that people are too greedy and selfish to willingly make sacrifices of their personal convenience and comfort.

Don't even try to peddle that junk data as science. You simply cannot lump that nonsense together. At the best we might have 40+years of comparable data we can use. You cannot compare data that was collected sporadically with primitive technology with data collected daily with the most modern technology available.

IF humanity has anything to do with climate, and that is exceedingly doubtful, it is already too late. Spend your time peddling ways to adapt to a changing world, not trying to pull off some wealth redistribution scheme.

It all really goes back to the fact we have no real long-term data to work with. That means all of our 'predictions' and whatnot are simply imaginings without basis. One need only look to see how consistently wrong the 'scientists' have been in the last few decades. It's sad that you folks keep peddling this nonsense without apparently ever giving it any real critical thought.

A few years ago, I read about a trend in nature where the population of an animal species (like deer or mice) may explode due to an increase in the food supply and a decrease in the number of natural predators only to collapse later on when the food supply can no longer sustain the increased population.
Humans are naïve to believe this couldn't happen to us if or when our accustomed plentiful food supply is seriously interrupted.

As it is now, there are thousands of species in the wild which are facing extinction because their habitats are changing too fast to adapt to it.

I also read how armadillos are migrating far north of where their previous natural habitats have been.

And there's no doubt that humans displace animals as we move into areas where humans didn't previously live in large numbers.

One of our collective biggest concerns is one that's rarely talked about. As the temperature of the oceans rise, and the pH levels change, the ocean may very well not be able to sustain the fish supply that we're currently overharvesting anyway. As the coral reefs die, the fish will disappear because most fish live close to shore and not out in the middle of the ocean.

I have no doubt that future generations will curse us for being so shortsighted. They'll curse ALL of us, of course, but they'll reserve their harshest condemnation for the climate deniers.

The evidence is there. If you don't want to look at it or even consider it, I don't really care because I can't be bothered trying to convince stupid people to have an open mind and be objective instead of closing their minds and turning a blind eye to what is happening all around us.
You folks have been saying that for years, yet nothing changes. Oh wait, this year we've seen record COLD. Peddle your lies elsewhere.

It certainly proves that glaciers are receding and the ice caps are melting.

Hardly the point, because a lot can happen in a 'few decades'. Plus that's another issue altogether, it takes decades to notice, which means its not really that serious.

It has been decades. The US has temperature readings at numerous sites going back to 1880.

The Keeling Curve told the tale regarding CO2 in Earth's atmosphere during the last 60 years.

And there are several reasons why the trend is going to accelerate.

1. A constantly growing population which first hit 1 billion people for the first time approximately 217 years right before the dawn of the industrial age and which is projected to hit 8 billion people in only 2 years.

2. Increasing industrialization all over the world.
3. Once CO2 is in the atmosphere, it will affect climate for about 100 years.
4. As the polar caps melt, and there's less sea ice year round, there is more absorption of the sun's rays (which means less reflection back into space).

The one hope I have is for some kind of carbon capture technology which I saw that Bill Gates and others are working on about a year ago. Electric cars might help, and more energy efficient appliances/electronics might help too, but people have a seemingly insatiable desire for electricity for all kinds of uses.

The current worldwide practice of shipping every kind of product (food, textiles, electronics, autos, etc) would have to change too.

It's not junk science. It's peer-reviewed science.

Do you even know what the Keeling Curve is? It goes back to 1958. How about the science of drilling core samples of ice from the polar caps or from Greenland in order to measure the amount of CO2 trapped in the ice going back hundreds of thousands of years?

I can admit that the scientists have been consistently wrong, but it's only bad news because they've consistently underestimated the speed of the change.

As a general rule, once scientists and climatologists measured past changes, they made predictions of what the future changes would be. That's when they come up with 3 predictions which represents what they believe to be a range of possibilities from a conservative change (a relatively minor increase of temperature) to a more moderate increase of temperature and a larger increase in temperature. To my knowledge, they collectively ALWAYS chose the conservative change, probably because they did not want to appear to be overly alarmist in their assessments. Guess what? They've chosen wrong every time because, as it turns out, even the largest increase in temperature turned out to be too conservative once the future data is analyzed.

One of the surprises that scientist got a few years ago involves a large lake of water that was on an ice floe. I can't remember where it was. At any rate, scientists were camped nearby but not too close. I think they expected the water to slowly drain away to the sea on the surface as the ice continued to melt. Well, they were wrong, but not in the way you would hope.

Late at night, they were suddenly awakened by what they described at the time sounded to them like the overwhelming noise of a train nearby. When they went to the lake in the morning light, they found that it had drained under the ice in much the same way that a toilet is flushed which meant that there had to be a source of air flow (just the way a toilet or sink requires an air pipe on the roof of your house in order to drain). Before it actually happened, I don't believe that they even speculated that as a possibility.

No, the problem is not junk science. The problem is uninformed junk minds like yours.
