I hate to use Wikipedia but it cuts to the quick. In 1976 the DNC decided that everyone who runs for the nomination gets a participatipn trophy. Also, DNC has powerful "Super Delegates" that will allow the machine to screw Bernie Sanders. I was offered a "Super Delegate" position for the DNC.
