Watch your step around the hippopotamus , they can actually be deadly.

The media portrays the hippo as happy, but that just isn't necessarily true.

Happy? Deadly? Why, the hippopotamus is probably the most dangerous animal in Africa. They are not the animal portrayed in childhood cartoons. They are more dangerous and unpredictable than lions, rhinos, elephants or cape buffalo, and they are surprisingly quick for their size.

So much so that while I would hold the tour guide company partially responsible, I would also hold the couple partially so as well, and pox on the tour company for not getting a signed waiver as to the potential danger of touring Africa. I would not get within 200 feet of a rhino, not even one submerged in water without a reliable escape vehicle and a .378 magnum rifle at my side, and if these people did any less, they are party to blame for getting killed.

I think hippos kill more people in Africa than crocs and lions. Makes sense when you think about the boats that glide over hippos just below the surface.

Is it like those dolphins who appear to be smiling?

Who said they were happy?

May be they are happy too... happy and dangerous :04:
