Hillary Clinton surprises with early attack on CEO pay

(Reuters) - Hillary Clinton, under pressure from the left wing of her Democratic Party to aggressively campaign against income inequality, voiced concern about the hefty paychecks of some corporate executives in an email to supporters.

Striking a populist note, Clinton, who announced on Sunday she was running for president in 2016, said American families were still facing financial hardship at a time "when the average CEO makes about 300 times what the average worker makes."

Why is it ironic?

Anyone who wants to talk about the incone disparity should. Their personal salary shouldn't even matter -- its only ironic if they are what caused the disparity in the first place, not ironic simply because they benefit from it.

Actually, good one anyone who benefits from the disparity to actually speak out on it, instead of ducking the problem.

I and many others would argue that she has helped cause the disparity.
I and many more others would say both of you should butt the **** out of the personal lives of others. What people make is between then & their employer. You determine your own value & if you are underpaid in America you have no one to blame but yourself.

Git gud scrubs

So she'll run on class warfare, a losing issue, and probably the fake "war on women" that worked so well for Mark Udall.
She's toast. No new ideas. No optimism. Just envy and anger. You can't win the presidency doing that.
Obama did, TWICE
Not at all. Obama came in with an upbeat change America forward blah blah campaign. When he got in it was a different story of course.

She's right but I guarantee she is ONLY saying it because she knows there are those to the left that will jump in and steal that portion of the electorate.I don't trust her one bit.

She doesn't get $14M annually, like a CEO. She's getting it once, for a book. You missed that completely.

She gets $300k per speaking engagement. What does the tech at the engagement make?
Hillary is a big honking hypocrite.

Show me one single, solitary upper echelon politician who isn't wealthier than a CEO. Singling out Hillary just shows sheer naivete.

What politician isn't, muttonhead?

If a group wants to pay her $300K then don't you think that's just the free marketplace at work? You like the free marketplace, right?

If I can sound like a rightwing idiot from 2008, why are you all so obsessed with Hillary (Sarah)? Why are you so scared and jealous of Hillary (Sarah) being able to make whatever money she wants?

Maybe when people stop falling for it, they'll stop.

I was shopping in a store one time with my parents when I was pretty young and I saw a gold fish on display swimming in circles in a small fish bowl. Real small.

I pointed out to my Dad that I thought it was cruel to keep the fish in such a small place and he told me that the fish had a memory span of about 3 seconds.

By the time he made one lap around the bowl, he'd forgotten about the prior one.

dimocraps are the same way

Not trying to be funny. They really are THAT stupid

That comparison is VERY INSULTING.

To goldfish...

Right and CEO's are paid by the companies on their own free will, you don't think that is just the free marketplace at work?

And her staffers earn how much then?

The women staffers earn 70 cents for each dollar the men staffers earn...

No, they are not. Their salary is dictated by the board of directors, not the company and employees. The board can decide if they want to fire a CEO based on THEIR returns. The money in a corporation is kept right at the top.

Are we the ones running around bitching like spoiled little children that other people are making too much money? No, that's what she and those other politicians do and mental midgets like you lap it up.

And the Board of Directors are elected by the shareholders and if you have a 401k investment in your company then you are a shareholder. I just received the proxy form from my employer two weeks ago to vote on whether or not to reelect our Board.

Uh-huh, it's always clean, upstanding and honest:

Boards Don't Care If Directors Are Voted Out By Shareholders

"""Majority doesn't rule for shareholders -- at least when it comes to boards of directors.
Since 2008, more than 200 directors on the boards of US companies have failed to receive a majority of shareholder votes, but in nearly all cases the directors kept their jobs, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.
In many publicly-traded corporations, shareholder votes aren't binding. In some, a director only needs a single vote to keep his job."""
