CNNs own recent internal polling shows that Americans on all sides of the political spectrum want this investigation over with.
What has it accomplished? Huge no- bid cybersecurity contracts for Raytheon and Booz-Allen Hamilton to name just 2. Yet we are still told that big scary Russia is rattling at the gates waiting to meddle. What have those contracts accomplished? Maybe lining the campaign warchests of the reps that got them those deals?
This investigation has far from proven that Russian meddling ever acheived any demonstrable results.
What have Rosenstein and Mueller acheived? Two lists of unprovable charges against Russian people and corporations who will never stand trial. And even if by some miracle there were to be a trial, the government prosecutors would not have to present their evidence or how they got it, invoking national security concerns. When challenged by one of those corporations, Mueller was laughed out of court by the judge, denying his frantic request for an extension.
What else? A few deals made for admissions of lying about talking to Russians. Why did they lie? Because of the hysteria about Russia started by the Clinton campaign and picked up by the media and broadcast on a daily basis. The incoming rookies thought, even though they had the right to talk to whoever they wanted, that they had to lie about it.
The Manafort conviction on only 8 counts of misfiling bank documents, and nothing to do with Russia, hardly proves anything related to a "Russia investigation." And after daily reports of Manafort going to jail for 300 years, with time served, he could see less than 3 years.
So what's left? One short meeting with a private Russian lawyer who worked with Russian government prosecutors on one case of US sanctions against Russia (Magnitsky - adoptions). Yes the Trump campaign took the meeting under false pretenses. The dirt they hoped to receive never came through.
Maybe they should have gone through the proper channels to get their dirt. They should have hired a British spy to collude with his connections in Russia to create a dossier filled with unproven allegations against their opponent like the Clinton campaign and the DNC did.
What Mueller might conclude on the Comey firing and obstruction of Justice is anyone's guess. But why Democrats gave this man so much credibility after he testified to Sadam's possession of WMDs before the Iraq invasion is difficult at best to understand.
