Here's what marijuana really does to the developing brain, according to a psychiatrist

When I was young I loved smoking weed...now that I am an old man I can't stand it.
When I was young, I smoked pot almost incessantly. By seventeen, it ruined my life due to cannabis-induced derealization disorder. Been digging out of that hole for over fifty years. Watching people being fed bullshit about that drug ever since.
Pot advocates are the new reefer madness.

Pot truly has medicinal qualities but is not for everyone. Just like Prozac is not for everyone and Zoloft and Xanax are not for everyone....but all DO help certain types of people deal better with mental/emotional health issues. IMO, marijuana is good for people who are high-strung, think too much and can't relax. Is is NOT good for people who already have problems with motivation and inspiration. It will just make them even more like they already are. When I was a teenager I had issues with insomnia and stopping my brain at night. Smoking weed sometimes would set me straight for many days. It was never something I wanted to do all day or everyday or anything like that, and it did give me short term anxiety occasionally. That was only after it started to get really strong in the 90's , where you'd practically be tripping. No thanks. 😕

I take xanax and was taking it wrong.

I saw the head RN and she readjusted it (even cut it) and I feel 99 % better.

I rather smoke some home grown weed as it is really weak and helps with my anxiety.

Pot has zero medicinal value. That’s a ruse to attempt at mainstreaming. It would require FDA approval if it was medicine and it’s not. No more than alcohol is medicinal. If it acquired any FDA approval, it would have to list all of the awful side effects and risks just as these TV pharmaceutical ads do, spending half their commercials just listing the risks.

Pot causes psychosis, psychotic episodes, anxiety disorders, clinical depression, etc. Mental illness.

Yeah, well, the same can be said of alcohol, tobacco, lack of sleep, and even just sleeping around too much.

Bottom line is that it really comes down to the individual. People already with a weakness or propensity toward mental or emotional issues may be exacerbated by pot, but normal, healthy people are usually quite fine. Which is why cannabis has been used to good effect by countless civilizations for thousands of years.

Cannabis-induced derealization disorder does not require any predisposition. It can happen to any pot user whether first time or after years of use.
Pot is NOT medicine for anxiety as it is often the cause of anxiety. And not the anxiety of worry but anxiety as a physiological brain chemistry issue. Very different things.

And people who are misdiagnosed and given the wrong medication or the wrong dose will also have adverse effects and anxiety. Most psychoactive medications are like that.

No predisposition required. You’re being fed bad info.
Alluding to other bad things does nothing to justify any other bad things.
I understand your perspective on this as I was in your shoes way back when. But if you ever end up experiencing what I and many other people have had to deal with, you would certainly change your tune. But no one who has ever been through this would ever wish it on another.

But don’t you know? Pot is health smoke. It’s medicinal, you know.
Good one-- However , I had Chemo-therapy in 1999. I boiled it up and made TEA out of it-- Only way I could eat-- So ,like any other dangerous drug ,it does have SOME use. But Recreation? NO WAY

Pot didn’t have any physiological effect on that. Just psychological. Whatever floats your boat, I won’t argue. That’s your business.
