Zone1 Hello

No, but I've always been puzzled how Chicago can have so many shootings year after year and no one seems to care.
Some people care. But some people care in different ways. Everybody has a different idea of why it happens, everybody likes to point the fingers. Everybody has a rationale. I don't actually try to find the logic to that through my interviews, I just get perspectives that may form one opinion or another wow not directly focusing on that.

Is there a recurring theme you hear in your interviews or do you get a spectrum of opinions?

On the south side of Chicago where I'm from, and most neighborhoods kids tell me they don't go outside because it's too dangerous. A lot of young adults don't go outside too much because it's too dangerous. Crime is down because it's too dangerous outside and nobody goes outside no more like they used to otherwise they'll go to the suburbs or to a better neighborhood while sometimes bringing crime there. The majority of people say it's dangerous. Very few people give any insight and say it's not dangerous.

A lot of people do not want to be on video so sometimes they're okay with just audio alone. I started doing that lately. And I started the WordPress site so I can write about what people told me, because I think some of their stories are really interesting. I know the writing that I do will be nothing close to the personalities and interesting stories that they told but I still try to put it out there. I'll try to write something every day on that site, since I just came up with the idea but I have a thousand stories that people have told me that I don't want to forget. So be it

Did you run into bad, bad, Leroy Brown?

That's a song from the '70s. The South Side was actually very nice and most of the neighborhoods that I've lived in up until the 90s when it started getting weird, then the 2000s forget about it. The Mexicans and Venezuelans are cleaning up some of the neighborhoods but bringing along the narcos and Venezuelans, prostitutes and drugs, so things are getting slightly safer a little bit in a different way. But the South Side was mostly good when I was a kid. We would play in the streets and all the cars down the street would have their Windows left open overnight. A lot of people would sleep with their front doors open. None of that stuff happens anymore to the extent it did. It probably never will again in Chicago land area at least.
