I think he gathered them to demonstrate that they are not autonomous, and that is probably a good thing. By televising it the departing brass has to go back and can't spin the meeting like they were used to doing it to suit their own agendas. Probably some of the attendees were not happy with dei and woke policies interfering with recruitment and readiness, so maybe that. Venezuela is #1 in proven reserves.

And it's extra heavy and extra sour crude which means that our American Gulf Coast refiners prefer it because it produces a diesel to gasoline ratio that closely aligns with U.S. demand. Our light sweet crude from Texas makes too much gasoline and not enough diesel.

So even if we produce more oil than we consume, we are still dependent on foreign oil.
