No, you're wrong. Those were very bad times for the majority of the white population. If you didn't own property, weren't a merchant, or a professional, you were in desperate shape. It did no good to have a skill, because all the skilled labor was done by slaves. A poor person could survive—provided the hunting and fishing were good—but when conditions turned bad, they watched their children starve.
No, sir. The end of slavery was the best thing that ever happened to my people. Sharecropping was a gift sent from God. I've heard many Black posters denigrate sharecropping, but to my people, it was their salvation. During slave times, the condition of poor whites was so bad, they were even looked down upon by well-fed slaves.
