Great Blues musician! One of the Best! You play with people that have that kind of potential? We definitely did not get requests to butcher SRV. That repeated drunken "Play some short rock and roll> thing, cause a fight or two. Cover just wasn't worth if bar mgt didn't care.
Every guitarist plays like SRV. It’s the new Free Bird. Actually not that new. Been going on for 35 years now. SRV was a mix of Albert King and Hendrix. Everybody copied Hendrix and then they all began to copy SRV which is copying Hendrix all over again.

Disagree. Hendrix was great, eaten by his demons, but like many jazz greats could get lost in his thing, forgetting the relation to the actual tune, showing off his technique and abilities. SRV, not so much. He put it together and kept in together on every song, every performance. All acedemic though, as two are dead, and Joe was not invited, so HBCU Band it is. That's ok. I'm not going.
I’m talking about tone and chops. SRV copped the Hendrix tone like so many others and then played lots of Albert King licks. It was the Hendrix thing that made him popular. His brother Jimmie had way more going on and had an original, unique sound. When people copy SRV, they’re really indirectly copying Hendrix again. When they copy Jimmie Vaughan, they’re copying Jimmie Vaughan.
