Having hip replacement surgery tomorrow.

I have been ignoring my hip pain for 6 years. Keep telling my docs I cannot walk a long distance, can't do hills without a trekking pole, and it BURNS like mad even then. So far..in 6 years...no xrays have been ordered. They just shrug and say age does things.

As long as you're still active the docs wont do a thing other than to prescribe drugs.
When it gets to the point even the insurance company Docs have to admit your hip is fuked they'll replace it.

Wow, I would suggest you see an orthopedic..sounds strange that a doctor would not recommend x-rays.

I really suggest you don't let it get to where I am now.

I'm looking at replacing the other hip since it's starting to fail, which I've been told to expect since the first one was replaced four years ago.

Take a look at your kneecaps in the sitting position,is the repaired leg .5 to .750 longer than the other?

Dont accept xrays as an indicator.
The MRI is the only way to know for sure.
I went through the x ray fiasko on my first hip replacement and suffered for it.

That's strange, because my GP had me get both a MRI and a X-RAY, and the orthopedic surgeon only went by the X-Ray. Shows the deterioration better.

Yeah that is strange.
My surgeon required an MRI in both cases.
h An MRI is far more detailed tan an x ray.

Are you really trying to to tell me an x ray is more accurate than an MRI?

Depends on what you are looking for. X-ray shows better details of bones.

Like CT scans, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) produces cross-sectional, detailed views of the body. Unlike CT scans, MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves rather than radiation to produce an image. These images are highly detailed making MRI the most sensitive diagnostic tool.

But for a straight, clear picture of what a bone looks like, X-Ray is still the go to tool.
