Have you ever been the victim of crime

Just a few times.

Had someone buy 2500 dollars of luggage on the other side of the country on my credit card. Charges were immediately dropped by the credit card company for me.

Someone stole a pistol out of my truck and nothing else in a mall parking lot. I had it hidden which means it was someone I knew that knows I had guns. From then on I never tell anyone about anything I have. Never got it back.

Got robbed once in Chicago a while back. Went to the magnificent mile for a couple days alone and had 2 nwords push me off the street late one night yelling to give them my money and phone. I don't know why but I started laughing and said "I got robbed 2 streets back all I have left are my shoes". They looked at each other and ran off. Which I was grateful for because when I was talking I was unsnapping the holster for my gun on the back side of my hip. They were 3 seconds away from being killed.
Too bad they got away. We could do with far fewer of these worthless assholes.

But I'm glad you came out alright.

Had two fishing rods stolen off my boat while it was docked at the marina overnight.

Why yes, I have been. Quite recently in fact.

On March 18th of this year I was walking my dog at our companies trailer drop yard that evening before bed and was confronted by an armed robber who told me to give him all my money. I had no money, he patted me down, took 3 steps, turned around and shot me 6 times. I've been out of work ever since, spent 11 days in the hospital and the rest recovering from my injuries at my parents house. Thank God with the first shot that blew my arm half off my dog took off running and he did not shoot her. Perp was caught about 15 minutes later.

I was shot:

1. In the right bicep through and through
2. In the left forearm, shattering my radius bone through and through
3. Through and through chest wound, nicking my lung
4. Grazing chest wound
5. Shot in the right ankle
6. Shot in the right big toe

The use of my left arm is severely limited and I haven't felt my left hand since the shooting. I am just now able to walk very slowly with a cane very short distances. I probably won't be able to return to work until June. But since I was on duty and on company property this actually is workers comp so all expenses are being paid by WC.

Did they ever catch the guy?

Prayers up for a full recovery, airplanemechanic. I'm so glad you survived that brutal attack.

I healed up pretty good considering. I still have tightness in my left arm from the metal plate and my right big toe is still VERY sensitive on the bottom if I step on something like an extension cord or the like with bare feet, but other than that, I'm ok. I'm able to jog 3-4 miles a day if I want. Actually MORE than I used to jog before I got shot.

LOL if you read in the post you quoted I answer that exact question.

Yes, they did. I don't know how, he ran into the darkness, but was so high he ran into our security fence and bounced off. His brain was totally fucked up. He was charged with attempted first degree murder, agg assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. I also think use of a firearm during an assault or commission of a crime or something like that.

Overall, I find an American society to be quite rough. I know that YouTube videos and other similar sources aren't too flawless things to learn about something, but numerous videos about road rages, brawls in shopping malls, violent customers etc being in abundance there draw not too pleasant picture.

I hope the creep who shot you is locked up and will never be allowed a reprieve due to the madness of shooting complete strangers as well as bystanders numerous times for no rational reason. Prayers up for your complete healing

Freedom of speech has its ups and downs. In my lifetime, as a child in a .military family, we lived in half the states including Alaska when it was still a territory when I was very young. I never considered our homes to be anything but safe and happy places to be.
I now live in the hill country of Texas and find almost all the people here are quite decent and friendly. The 35 years I lived in Wyoming, people were quite kindly and sensitive toward others.

Maybe a better neighborhood would be close enough so you could not have to fear local calamities you have experienced recentlly,

I have rarely had any incidents of criminal victimization and none of them serious, but the one that really pissed me off...

It was 1971, I was just out of the Army and was working part-time at Sears while going to college. I had bought a very nice '66 Bonneville convertible, and it had a professionally-installed stereo with 8-track player mounted on the center console. As a theft preventive measure, I could unlock and remove the entire unit, but since I had no place to put it I did not take that precaution when going to work.

The FIRST NIGHT that I parked the car in the Sears parking lot, the unit was stolen. The worst part was that the thief had DESTROYED the unit in the process of removing it, which was how it was designed. The MoFo must have pried it out with a crowbar or something.

At that time, I was impecunious, but had splurged and spent a couple hundred dollars on that stereo. I had liability insurance on the car, but no Comprehensive, so I had to eat the loss.

Now that I'm rich and retired, I don't fret over material possessions, but I was pissed as I could be about that stolen/ruined stereo. If I could have caught the MoFo I would now be serving a life sentence.

Freedom of speech is more than okay. I was talking about things when fists or another stuff was used, like throwing a 'bad' food on a cashier or throwing down equipment or furniture, vehicles being damaged etc.

I don't live in the US, I see on that from the outside.

The Texas Hill County is a great place. We lived on Mormon Mill Road in Marble Falls for a while. I cannot say enough good things about it.
