Yes, let's keep the immigration "unpleasantness" and respect for Mexico separate matters.

So very happy Cinco de Mayo to our friends in Mexico.

I understand, however, that this holiday is celebrated more in the States than it is in Mexico.

For those members/guests who are a bit rusty on Mexican history, on the 5th of May in the year of 1862, the Mexican forces defeated the mighty forces of France, which had invaded their country. The French recovered and eventually took over the country. (The United States was too occupied with our War Between the States to intervene in this blatant violation of the Monroe Doctrine.)
