The U.S. Department of Education is investigating whether Harvard racially discriminates by favoring applicants with ties to donors and alumni in its admissions process, according to a letter from the agency.

The department's Office for Civil Rights opened the probe following a complaint filed earlier this month by three civil rights groups, who argued that Harvard's preference for "legacy" undergraduate applicants overwhelmingly benefits white students, in violation of a federal civil rights law.

Many colleges and universities use legacy admissions policies, but they have drawn renewed scrutiny since June, when the Supreme Court struck down race-conscious policies adopted by Harvard College and the University of North Carolina to ensure more non-white students are admitted.

Applicants with legacy or donor ties to Harvard College, the undergraduate school of Harvard University, are nearly 70% white, and six to seven times more likely to be admitted than regular applicants, according to the complaint.

This is exactly what the MAGA right wing crowd wanted.

Where are the Asian students on this, do they feel like this is discriminating against them?

Good question. Time to look at the admission of Obama's daughter. Was she admitted because her dad was an alumni, or because he was a chick of color?

IMHO, Harvard and the rest of the liberal colleges have always been hotbeds of discrimination. White Trash rarely are allowed to matriculate into any of the Ivy schools.

lol hey, a Biden run Federal agency is gong to 'investigate stuff', and to no one's surprise will come up with a 'study' that follows the Party line. Most 'legacy' students are still brighter and more qualified than AA Babies and their extra points on entrance exams, so given the recent court rulings SupaBad and IM2 are still going to be sniveling dumbasses, no matter what, and have less than zero chances of getting in. Few white people care about whether rich kids get into Harvard or not. It's grossly over-priced and not that good a school outside of its huge trust fund and social connections. Other schools are better, even state colleges out in the sticks.

I don't think they have a case for racial discrimination. Economic discrimination? Probably. And yeah, that probably does have an effect on black enrollment..but that doesnt mean it is based on race.

Harvard's first black student was in the 1800's. I am guessing that the 30% non white people favored includes at least a few of their heirs.

This....like affirmative action needs to go away. Unless Harvard wants to turn down federal money.

I am against racist admissions and legacy admissions.
Not sure what this has to do with racism, though. Apparently you, and the writer, dont know what racism is.
Is it about an entire race of people being inferior, or rich and smart people?

You provide no evidence that they are "brighter".

Obama wasn't a legacy admission. His father didn't finish.

Ah yes, AA for the ‘C student’ scions of the elite!

Apparently, this brain-dead Administration is too dense to realize that disparate impact, by itself, does not prove illegal discrimination.

If Harvard simply excluded anyone with an IQ under 130, less than one percent of its Freshmen would be Black or Hispanic.

This conclusion is provable by information that is public. Disparate impact does not equal illegal racial discrimination.
