Happy Remembrance Day also from Canada and the Common Wealth nations (I think) around the world.

At 11 am today we stand for two minutes of silence. It is the only two minute it seems that everyone across this country, from Indigenous people to foreign citizens who may be visiting here, stand in silence without conflict. If you are in a public washroom, you should stand for these two minutes.

The thought of what these young men went through in wars past, what they lost. Many of them never even having kissed a woman, their entire lives ahead of them and they sacrificed it all not to be rich or famous but for freedom.

This is why every Western politician has an important mission to reinforce the principles they died for. I know I will do my part and not be silent when civil liberties are stolen, I had been silent for too long, afraid when I normally am not.

Remember that when someone wants to silence others, wants to hurt their career or pursuits in life, wants to force them to be anything but free as G-d made them, we all owe it to stand up against them, be they police, judges, politicians or members of a higher caster. These principles are bigger than you or I.

Thank all current and former military members for their service. Let us not forget those who came before us.

:salute:

Ayup. Did Basic at Leonard Wood
I went to AIT at Leonard Wood. Basic at Fort Polk. Very few went to Polk for basic. Not sure how that happened to me but I was one of the few. It was kind of a cluster duck. I was last in line for boots. They literally ran out out. Had to wear tennis shoes and a tag to to not get into trouble for not having boots. Lol, not the way you want to stand out in such a situation. Standing out equals getting dogged big time. Lol, fun times.

This years Remembrance Day events seem far more detailed and military driven than in years past. Jets flying overhead, continued firing from cannons to salute, I don't recall it being this aggressive and "real".

This may be a signal that perhaps there are concerns of a real World War and citizens needs to be reminded of what is not only in the past but what might be our future. Of course this is a huge leap to connect such events and the possibility of war especially as there may be an election in the near future as well so...

Regardless, it is usually just music, bagpipes and many tears. This feels different from years past in Canada. 1000s of people today and even the Ambassador to Canada Mr. Cohen attended.

Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

It is the Soldier

“It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,

And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.”

Well Canada and the military is not commonly thought of down here but have you ever heard of the one eyed sniper pirate? Very interesting story.

Just heard the story of a mother who lost her son in Afghanistan due to friendly fire. Aged 24, horrible.

Her message of course now that the Taliban has taken back that country "he died for nothing".

What a horrible feeling.

Died for nothing? Tough to say. We do not know the road not travelled. I can certainly see how she would feel that way. The end is not what I would have liked to see. Who knows what would have happened if we had not entered Afghanistan? Maybe more buildings would have fell and more lives would have been lost in the United States. Maybe not. We just don't know. To bad Bill Clinton did not get Osama Bin Laden when he tried to take him out with missiles. To bad we trained the bastard Osama. Who knows what the best option was? Maybe if we did not train Osama Russia would have rolled over Afghanistan and WW3 would have happened. Maybe not. What happened, happened. Check out the story of the Canadian one eyed sniper pirate. The dude flat created havoc on the Germans in WW2.

When you lose a son, 95% of the time it will feel like it was for nothing. Certainly since WWII.

Absolutely agree. I lost my brother. Tuff for me. Much tougher for my mother. In the long run it will be toughest on my brother's son. The world sure as hell ain't fair. Tragedy at every corner. All we can do is take advantage of and appreciate what few good times we get.
