In my 70+ years on this planet, I noticed a group that is consistently happier than most of humanity.

The Artists

Painters, sculptors, potters, musicians etc. Though not oblivious to the world around them, these folks seem far less affected by the daily news, politics, weather, gossip, and other items that bring the rest of us down, while they happily go about creating their works. An interesting article below.

Happy Artists

Hmmm.....don't know about that:eusa_think:

Yes, the stereotype is the troubled and tortured soul. I often wondered if that was true.

I read the article, but will like to see the research. Perhaps I will look it up. I noted however, that the article seemed to emphasize occupation. The reporting on the first piece of research did that. The second one discussed life choices, but did not get specific.

Creativity and mental illness has its links. Depression and substance abuse in particular.
But I can see how some artists could be very happy. They are doing what they love and arent stuck behind a desk for 10 hours a day.

You are right....depression and substance abuse...big, big problem for artists ...not all of course, but many

We had a hunting lease next to the property of an "artist", a painter of some small renown......She would trapeze through the lease with her dogs because she hated hunting.....Her place was on the other side of the hill from where we were so she had to make a special effort at it.

The landowner (in company with a Sherrif deputy) told her that she would be arrested for trespassing if caught again.....All the landowners in the area despised her.....A city shit out of DC of course.

Just a note, not a criticism: the word you are looking for is "traipse"

I've been a guitar player and songwriter for 40+ years. When I was a kid, I told my Dad I wanted to be a musician and play guitar, he said "better get a job then"........ Boy was he right.

It’s the opposite. Depression goes hand in hand with talent.

I'm an artist, a musician, and a poet. I'm pretty much the same as most people, but I do have a certain comfort (happiness) from my arts. It's a kind of a security blanket that I can't ever be thought to be foolish, when I'm able to do what less than 1% of people can do (although they would like to).
