Haiti: We were at the pool

My wife just spoke with a friend of hers who lost 2 dear friends in Haiti, they were part of a group of 12 that went down there as part of a Christian charity effort (this is part of on ongoing worldwide outreach and aid that was prior to the earthquake).

The 12 were staying at the same hotel when the quake hit; 4 of them perished in the hotel while 8 survived.

What saved them? Why did these 8 survive?

They decided to stay at the pool just a little while longer.

It just shows the littlest action can turn out to be a life or death decision in some cases, you just never know.
