You're right that Trump's fame is in large part due to media. He used a wicked raft to ride the ratings wave. And that's also the problem. 30 years ago the evening news wouldn't put such an inflammatory person on in prime time because of families.

The media doesn't care how twisted or inaccurate their product is....as long as it angers citizens to generate ratings. And that's true for both sides.

No one is as bad as the media paints them to be. Trump. Obama. Cops. BLM. Liberals. Conservatives. The media takes the examples that they can sensationalize the most and kick the most bees nests with and portrays them to represent the larger group. It divides citizens and their ratings go up.

If that isn't a prime example of confirmation bias, I'm not sure what else would be.

I don't think I've seen more than 3-5% of the news stories linked on this forum come from a source with any sort of legitimacy. While everybody can agree that the mainstream media does spin things, it is also held somewhat accountable for publishing at least somewhat verifiable stories...on the other hand, a lot of the biased materials linked here come off as anything from misleading to outright false...many sites aren't held to the same accountability or scrutiny that mainstream media is.
Fox News is a prime example. Do they publish misleading or false information? Yes. However, because of the level of scrutiny that they tend to be under, there is usually a lot of information out there to check the stories against making it easy to see a fuller picture of the story rather than just being fed a piece of information in a vacuum.
