Unfortunately I still don't think that will work. The genie's out of the bottle -- there are already more guns than people in this country, absurd as that fact is. The reality is that pretty much anyone who wants a gun can find a way to get one. Just as anyone who wants a stash of pot can find it, legal or not.

The gun culture is what has to change -- the cultural value that keeps telling us the solution to whatever's interrupting the flow of our day is to blow it away. That is what we need to get rid of. The crazy people, at base all they're doing is following those orders.

I agree with you, social and moral decline played a decline in feeding this man's already existing mental pathology. But your diagnosis is narrow, simplistic, and just wrong to blame it on "gun culture". That is a naive liberal cop out. If anything this more widespread moral nihilism, malevolence and detachment from reality that stems from atomization has to do with the lack of a community, social bonds, and moral regulation. These pathologies are the product of a society that is beyond scale and suffers from a condition of Anomie, among other things. Simply put, societies are too large, impersonal, and provide very little moral guidance in an age of relaitivism and hyperindividualism.

So....what do you say to the 1.6 million law abiding citizens, on average, each year who stop violent criminal attack and save lives with guns.....that they should just be victims...quietly submit to rape, robbery, torture, beatings, stabbiings and murder......all to stop only 8-9,000 gun murders a year......

1.6 million violent crimes stopped and lives saved vs. 8-9,000 gun murders each year, most of them which occur in isolated geographic areas, small, multi block areas in inner cities from gang and drug related violence and crime.....
