Hello
PREMISE: Let's say that through some theoretical decree the government was able to remove ALL GUNS from society. For this post, there are no guns in a given society.
In this scenario, is a woman who lives in a high crime area - for example - less or more safe?
It's reasonable to assume a woman with a handgun has a 50/50 chance in subduing a male attacker with a handgun. But in this gunless society, i think it's also reasonable to assume that her odds are MUCH worse with hand-to-hand combat with a male attacker or knife vs knife, etc. Right?
Police don't arrive instantly, remember. Holding off someone for 10 minutes can mean the difference between being raped (or worse). Roughly 90,000 cases of rape are reported in the US annually (so this isn't some obscure thing I'm talking about here).
Are females ultimately less safe in a gun-free society due to physical differences between the sexes?
I think this will make for an interesting discussion...
