AHMEDABAD: Lord Buddha's bodily relics in Gujarat will be displayed at an exhibition to be held in Sichuan, China.
Gujarat is the fifth place in the world where bodily relics of Buddha have been found. The relics of Lord Buddha were unearthed by MS University's department of archaeology and ancient history in 1963 from Devni Mori near Shamlaji in north Gujarat.
The relics will be displayed at Sichuan as part of a Buddhist tourism circuit between Sichuan and Gujarat. The India China Economic & Cultural Council (ICEC) and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Sichuan Council signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday to launch several such initiatives.
Among other initiatives, an industrial park comprising Sichuan companies will be set up in Gujarat. A direct flight between Ahmedabad and Sichuan capital Chengdu will be launched in February and an Indian innovation centre will be opened in Sichuan.
"Out of the $66 billion trade with China last year, 70% import from China has been handled by just 50 Indian companies. The SME centre will help promote trade," said Jagat Shah, ICEC chairman.
The two associations have also planned a trade and investment summit in Chengdu in June 2014 with a 100 member delegation from Gujarat expected to participate. Gujarat government's Vibrant Gujarat 2015 will also include a road show in Sichuan to promote the state in China.
