The first shot was fired up into the air, not at Rittenhouse or Rosenbaum. It was also fired about a second, maybe two, before Rosenbaum went down, which he did the instant Rittenhouse fired his first shot.

Studies show a bullet coming down is far from lethal mainly because as the bullet reaches it's apex it stops and falls at 32fps as opposed to the muzzle velocity of somewhere around 3,620 fps which is a typical AR-15. Also one has to take into account friction which slows it even further to a terminal velocity of even less than 32fps. Lesson over.
