A "controlled burn" has gotten out of control. 80 buildings destroyed, along with one of the Park's most famous lodging facilities. Perhaps we ought to, you know, not do "CONTROLLED BURNS" in national parks, especially during extremely dry conditions? People need to go to jail for this one.

I had heard about the famous lodge and hoped to visit some day. :(

Lightning started this fire

Not according to this article it didn't.

The fire responsible, known as the Dragon Bravo Fire, started as a controlled burn but quickly turned destructive due to high winds, dry conditions, and soaring temperatures.

That happened in New Mexico too. What was supposed to be a controlled burn got away from them and became one of the largest most destructive fires in the state history. We hated to hear about the Arizona fire. We have stayed at the Grand Canyon lodge.

OK --- if the fire officials are telling the truth.
Do you think that there would be controlled burns on a national holiday(July 4) in the busiest national park in the country?
Think!

It was gorgeous. I had stayed at North Rim many times over the decades. Their breakfasts were wonderful, especially if you got there early enough to get a seat by the window.

Yes. This fire is burning on the NORTH rim.
Had quite a moose encounter right outside el Tovar. Rangers had to come and beforehand a dummy got way to close for a photo and got charged by a moose but not hurt badly. The rangers dispersed the people and shooed the mosses away
